The latest model from Citroen’s stunning DS range is the 2011 DS4, to be presented at the upcoming Paris Motor Show as a production model, not a concept. The car features a dynamic and cool design like a DS should, but it’s also more practical and versatile than the DS3. Citroen calls it a multi-talented car. Some of the car’s features are premium cabin materials, large panoramic windscreen, chrome detailing, and its compact size.
Citroen DS4 is 4.27m long, 1.81m wide 1.53m high, and it has a coupé style with 2+2 door practicality and it comes with three full-sized rear seats. One cool feature here is the hidden rear-door handles, that are seamlessly integrated into the body’s flowing lines. The car also offers up to 370-litre boot and a host of clever storage solutions.
2011 DS4 will launch with five options for engines, including two HDi diesels and three petrol units. The two HDi diesels – an HDi 110 (also available as an e-HDi version) and an HDi 160 – are both fitted with Citroën’s Diesel Particulate Filter System. The three petrol powerplants – VTi 120, THP 155 and the new THP 200 – were co-developed with BMW. The new THP 200 – based on the 1.6-litre engine – delivers flexible power delivery and performance thanks to its power output (147kW), plentiful torque (275Nm at 1,700rpm) – with low CO2 emissions of just 149g/km. All engines are available with manual or EGS six-speed gearboxes.
The DS4 is also very well equipped and comes with (based on trim level) large-diameter (340mm) ventilated disc brakes and, as standard, with dedicated braking control systems, including ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). Ensuring optimal vehicle control in the most demanding driving situations, DS4 also features intelligent traction control with ESP.
To make the interior of the car more luxurious than the normal standard of this segment Citroen offers chrome detailing on the air vent surrounds, instrument cluster, gear lever and parts of the central console. Aluminium pedals, embossed leather door handles and ambient lighting are further evidence of DS4’s attention to premium detail.
The car will go on sale in 2011. Pricing and availability for different markets will be announced later.
