No Lotus Elan Until 2016

Lotus Elan Concept at No Lotus Elan Until 2016

Looks like things are not going just as planned at the Norfolk-based company. First sing of it: Lotus Elan has been delayed until 2016.

When they revealed the new generation Elan at the 2010 Paris auto show they promised a 2013 launch, 2014 tops. The real reasons for this decision are unclear, but apparently Lotus wants the Evora to soldier on a couple more years. Come to think of it, What Elan is supposed to offer is already offered in the Evora, on a smaller scale!  They want to make the most of the investment they’ve made on the Evora before moving on and replacing it.

Production of the new Elan won’t even be considered until 2016, so realistically the car, if it ever gets into production, will come as a 2018 model!

So you can expect different variants of the Evora coming up the next few years. Lotus has reportedly confirmed the launch of the new Espirit for 2013 again, but you know what, it’s too soon to be sure.
