Chevrolet Cruze Diesel at Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Confirmed For U.S.

In an effort to make the Cruze range more fuel efficient, Chevrolet will offer a diesel engine for the car in America from 2013.

Specs and details of the American Cruze Diesel are yet to be announced, but if the European Cruze Diesel is any indication, it’ll be a 1.8 110kW engine. GM says it’ll come with a standard six-speed manual transmission, and offers 42 mpg car.

That’s good for now, but in 2013 most of the petrol-powered cars will be able to offer that economy.

Cruze recorded a total of 24,896 sales in the United States in June, the fifth consecutive month sales have exceeded 20,000. The success of the Cruze has increased Chevrolet’s total share of the compact-car segment from 9.5 percent a year ago to 11.9 percent for the first five months of 2011, even as the segment size grew 19 percent.
