Hyundai has always been good at making coupes. Even in the olden days when they was still a crappy Korean car maker they used to make the Tiburon which was fantastic. Then came the Hyundai Coupe, and then the magnificent Genesis Coupe. Now they have a new contender in this segment, the 2013 Elantra Coupe, which is coming putting up a fight against the likes of Honda Civic Coupe and even its own sister Kia Forte Koup.
This compact coupe starts at only $17,445 for the base GS model, but even that comes with loads of standard equipments including air conditioning, heated front seats, AM/FM/SiriusXM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system, steering wheel audio controls, illuminated vanity mirrors, cruise control, Bluetooth®, external temperature gauge, fog lights, power locks, power heated mirrors, remote keyless entry with alarm, 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The engine powering the Elantra Coupe is a 1.8 liter four-banger with Nu Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing which makes 150 horsepower. It can be had – depending on the trim level – with either a six-speed manual or automatic. The engine might not be that gutsy, but it’s rated at 40mpg highway.
Sport-tuned suspension and standard VSM, ESC, TCS, ABS with Brake Assist and EBD are among the other coupe-ish features of the Elantra.
