German tuner of Mercedes-Benz cars MEC Design revealed their first package for the 2013 Mercedes SL type R231. What they have made here is, incidentally, all the SL you would ever want. It is based on the SL500 (SL550 in America), but gets AMG styling upgrade and tweaked exhaust which sounds cooler than SL63’s stock system.

Sure, the SL63 is faster than the SL500, but not by much. The 430 horsepower twin-turbo V8 will give you more than satisfying performance while being more fuel efficient than the full-fat V8 in the SL63.

We think this car even looks better than the SL63, mainly thanks to MEC Design ELS Module (Electronic Lowering System) that drops the car by 55mm. It is of course adjustable. The AMG bumpers are also a very nice touch, especially around at the back where you also get AMG’s unique  tailpipes. MEC has tweaked the exhaust system and offers two sound modes: Daytona (DT) and Earthquake (EQ).

The only part of this package we’re not digging is the wheels. They are MEC Design mecxtremeI 3 piece wheel Satin Edition and they look retro, which should be cool, but they are not very nice. We’d go for something more modern.

Still, we’d choose the SL500 with MEC kit over an SL63 AMG everyday.
