Back in the day when factory standard Shelby GT500 had almost 500 horsepower Shelby American used to have an easier time coming up with a Super Snake version that would wow the muscle car crowd with its massive power. Now though that Shelby GT500 comes with 662 stock horsepower, things aren’t easy anymore. But don’t despair, they can still cut it.

For the 2013 GT500 Super Snake you see here they start out soft, offering some visual upgrades for the base 662 hp car, such as Satin Black or Gloss White stripes to be paired with new wheels in Satin Black or Bright Silver Metallic, along with new silver and blue stripes paired with limited base vehicle colors. There is also an optional 14 inch rear wheel and tire package.

But the main reason you go past a standard GT500 and get a Super Snake is because you want even more power, not some new stripes. Happily they don’t disappoint. Shelby American can hook you up with no less than 850 horsepower, courtesy of  a Whipple supercharger or 850 hp Kenne Bell supercharger.

As always, other components are upgraded accordingly. So you get a much better cooling system, a super high performance braking system, massive new exhausts, and a set of 20-inch wheels.

To maintain exclusivity they only make 500 Super Snakes. The 850 hp package will cost you very nearly $40,000, not including the base car.
