Even though the new BMW M6 Gran Coupe is a very important car, mainly because it’s a proper rival for Mercedes CLS63 and all the evidence suggest it’s going to give the Merc a hard time, it is not exciting news. Everybody already knows how it looks and how much power it makes. But this new spyshot from the factory floor reveals an interesting new feature: some pretty cool wheels.

Not sure if they are prototypes or actual production wheels, but BMW needs to add something new to the M6 DC mix. The Gran Coupe, as you know, is an elongated 6-Series with two extra doors at the back and a new sloping roof line to make it look like a coupe. As with the BMW 6 Series coupe and cabrio, it looks much better in the flesh than it does in the pictures. But is it good looking enough to drive people away from the CLS?

In terms of power and performance, the M6 Grand Coupe will get the same 560-hp powertrain as other M6 models. It will probably be faster round a race track than the CLS63 AMG, but the AMG will be the more exciting car to live with.
