Right on schedule, and after the cabriolet version, the new Porsche 911 GT3 is the next member of the 991 family to be unveiled over the next months. The car is set for world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, and is the case with new Porsches, it is lighter, more powerful, and therefore faster.

We can’t say for sure it will be brilliant, because as seen with the Porsche 991 Carrera that new electric steering wheel might take away some of the joy. What’s more, rumor has it that the new GT3 will only be available with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission and no manual.

As for the power and performance, the new GT3 gets a slight bump in power to 450 hp. That extra 15 hp along with a weight reduction of 50 kg will enable the new Porsche to hit 60 mph from zero in under 4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 200 mph.

But raw speed has never been the GT3’s party piece. That is the feel of the thing, which with the electric steering and no manual gearbox, is at risk of being ruined. That said, Porsche is not the kind of company to compromise on their heritage for the sake of fuel efficiency. Let’s wait for Geneva and see what they have in store.
