As promised, JRM held the first test session for the new and upgraded 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 race car at the Portimão Circuit, where the car’s improvements over the previous model were put to test. The car serves its main purpose, which is lapping the track faster than its predecessor.
The test car did not feature all the 2013 upgrades, but it did get the new substantially upgraded aerodynamics and the new suspension setup. Turns out these changes alone were enough to make the car faster. The new Nismo GT3 GT-R is also 20 kg lighter than the old one, which contributes to its superior performance.
At the event potential customers also got to test the new race car. The final version they will be receiving, should they decide to buy it, will also feature engine upgrades.
“The test gave us four full days running in predominantly dry conditions ,working through aero and damper set up changes to optimise the car ahead of homologation,” says JRM’s Nigel Stepney. “The drivers reported turn in is significantly improved and the repositioned rear wing is more efficient than last year’s, resulting in downforce without the drag.”
