Chevrolet announced today its plans to produce 69 COPO Camaro turnkey dragster this year, and that they will soon start identifying customers from those ‘who have continually expressed their interest.’ The new COPO is priced at $86,000.

Last year more than 3,000 people showed interested in buying the 2012 COPO, but Chevy only built 69. It has something to do with traditions, and the fact that producing this specialized car is kinda tricky.

The new COPO Camaro will be eligible for a broader range of NHRA Stock Eliminator classes, thanks to three new engines it can be specified with. The engines include a 350-cubic-inch engine rated at 325 horsepower, a 396-cubic-inch engine rated at 375 horsepower, and a 427-cubic-inch engine rated at 425 horsepower. Choices of transmissions include a new manual transmission and a Powerglide automatic.

You can have the COPO in five different colors of Black, Summit White, Victory Red, Silver Ice Metallic and Ashen Gray Metallic. Additional new and revised production features for 2013 include:

  • A “heritage” grille and standard-production (non-HID) headlamps
  • New exterior graphics choices with engine-size call-outs
  • Revised interior package with custom carpet and new switch panel
  • Dedicated racing wiring harness
  • Revised front springs that enhance performance
  • Transmission cooler integrated with radiator.
