Citroen To Enter World Touring Car Championship From 2014

Citroen WTCC teaser 600x400 at Citroen To Enter World Touring Car Championship From 2014

The next big motorsport move for Citroen is touring car racing, as the French company confirms entry into the FIA WTCC from 2014 onwards. The model they will be racing is yet to be revealed, but they have already confirmed their old boy Sebastian Loeb as the first driver.

This makes Loeb one of the few drivers in the world who has experienced almost every field of motorsport in a professional level. What makes it more special is the fact that the Frenchman is always successful. It doesn’t matter if he’s driving a rally car, a GT racer, Le Mans prototype, or whatever. He is always at the top of his game.

In a few days Loeb will be taking on the fearsome Pikes Peak hill climb challenge in a Peugeot 208. If you are into gambling, Seb is probably the safest bet.

Citroen says they have to start from scratch with the car they will be racing in the series, because they have no prior experience. The only bit of it already confirmed is the engine, which is the 1.6-litre direct injection turbo borrowed from the DS3 WRC.
