Steve Saleen is back in the headlines announcing his plans to launch a new series of Saleen Heritage Collection, paying homage to America’s top stock car drivers and Ford’s factory-backed race cars. A trio of new Mustangs will continue the tradition that began in late 2000’s with the Saleen Parnelli Jones and Saleen Dan Gurney editions.

The new cars will be named George Follmer, Mark Donohue, and Savage Edition Barracuda. They all feature modern engineering features and upgraded engines, suspension and braking systems. They will, however, be designed and painted like the old racing cars Saleen is trying to honor.

The first release of the Collection is the Saleen George Follmer Edition Mustang which was unveiled at Laguna Seca over the weekend. This car features a the same V8 engine found in the Mustang Boss 302 with an estimated output of 470 horsepower. It also boasts track tuned suspension, and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Each of the Saleen Heritage Collection models will have a price tag in the mid $70,000’s when they are released in early 2014.
