Nicking all of the five available stars in EuroNCAP crash tests, the all-new Ford Tourneo Connect becomes the first compact people mover to be awarded with maximum score by the European institute. What really sets this car apart though is the score it achieved in child protection.

This is a small MPV that is likely to be used for school run, so child protection is of crucial importance. Fortunately, the Tourneo Connect does very well in this aspect, achieving 85 per cent for child occupant protection. It does an even better job of protecting the parents, with a score of 94 per cent for adult occupant protection and 83 percent overall.

The car also scored 100 per cent for the ease of installing a child safety seat thanks to its ISOFIX mounting points on the two outer second row seats.

The key to the Tourneo’s brilliant safety is an immensely strong steel body, with 53 per cent of the structure built from high strength and ultra-high strength steels, including 16 per cent ultra-high strength boron steel. The car also features driver, passenger and side airbags at the front, and curtain airbags in the front and rear.

Ford Tourneo Connect is also kind to the pedestrians. In addition to features like the Active City Stop, the car benefits from innovative designs of the bonnet, windscreen and instrument panel to minimise the risk of head injuries.
