Not all of the cars featured in the upcoming Need For Speed movie are fake replicas of the real thing. Some of them like this Mustang are actually designed and built exclusively for the movie. Now, in an elaborate publicity stunt, the car has been given the job of pacing the Ford EcoBoost 400 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Need For Speed Mustang pace car will be driven by one of the film’s stars, Ramon Rodriguez. The car features a custom-designed wide body created specifically for this new role with unique 22-inch alloy wheels. But its party piece is a heavily tuned V8 engine that makes 900 horsepower. So it’ll be a bit of a handful for an inexperienced driver.

It is not a half-assed job, either. The Need For Speed Mustang has specially-designed mirrors and extended rocker panels for the sake of better aerodynamics, and rear spoiler and diffuser created to improve airflow, reducing drag and giving additional traction for high-speed acceleration.

You can see the Need For Speed Mustang in action in the upcoming movie – starring Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Ramon Rodriguez, and Michael Keaton – opening on March 14, 2014, and give it a go yourself in the “Need for Speed Rivals” game which will be available soon.
