It is not likely that McLaren would ever make a Spider, or open-top, version of the P1 hyper car. But just in case they might, designer Evren Milano came up with this rendering to prepare us. It looks pretty cool from this angle, but P1’s not a car you can mess with easily.

The car is built with an OCD-level attention to details, and every bit of it has been engineered and then re-engineered times and times again. To go ahead and cut off its roof means another five years of hard work for the Woking-based company. Still, it they find out there are enough people who would pay big bucks for it, they might go through with it.

It would be great if McLaren launched a drop-top version of the P1 without all those hybrid bits and bobs weighing the car down. Granted, it would be then like a 12C Spider, but as we can see in this picture, a McLaren P1 Spider is quite a looker.

At any rate, even if a P1 Spider is on the agenda, it won’t be coming out any time soon.
