Dodge Challenger Hellcat Rumor 600x381 at Dodge Challenger Hellcat Rumored for NAIAS Debut

Sources close to Chrysler and their power-crazed engineers in SRT division are suggesting that at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show they are going to unveil an “absolutely sinister” Hellcat engine based on the 6.2 liter HEMI V8. The engine will probably make its debut inside an equally sinister Dodge Challenger.

Said to produce “stupid Power” the Hellcat engine could also power SRT versions of the Charger and Chrysler 300. But the Challenger seems like the best candidate for the treatment to us. The name Dodge Challenger Hellcat has a nice ring to it!

Based on the renowned 6.2 liter Supercharged HEMI V8, the Hellcat motor will develop something between 650 to 700 horsepower, which makes it a direct rival for the Shelby GT500 and the Camaro ZL1. If the rumors about the power output turn out to be true, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat should also come with trick suspension, better tires and brakes, and probably some aerodynamic tweaks. Not even SRT is irresponsible enough to put a 700-hp V8 in a car without upgrading the rest of it.

A Dodge Challenger Hellcat with the aforementioned engine should be able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds, there and thereabout, and do the quarter-mile in high 11s. As for the price, seeing as the Hellcat would be a limited edition car, it could cost up to 80 grand, which is a lot for a muscle car.
