Nissan, as you may know, revived the Datsun brand last year, so they can make cheap, economy cars for the emerging markets without sullying their own name. Since then they have released a couple of teasers showing what they have in mind, and now comes the first revealing design sketch of the car.

The new Datsun Concept is a good-looking hatchback designed, according to the company, for the younger generation. So it will affordable, cheap to run, fairly basic, and very economical. These are the qualities shared by all ‘global’ models. And by global we of course mean economy.

The Datsun hatchback will be competition with likes of Mitsubishi Mirage and Honda Brio in the emerging markets such as Thailand, Brazil, and India. The Datsun will in fact make its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo next month.

As is the case with these global models, they will probably make a sedan version of the car as well. And while technical details are yet to be revealed for this Datsun, the engine will probably be a 1.4 mated to a manual gearbox.
