After proving itself as a Superbike race pace car earlier in the year, the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car has now been given another safety car job, but this one’s a bit bigger. The 4C has been chosen as the official safety car for the 2014 WTCC (World Touring Car Championship).

On this occasion, Alfa Romeo revealed the official safety car livery the 4C will be wearing throughout the season. It uses the car’s signature red color as the base, and garnishes it with black graphics and white lettering. The car will make its debut at Moulay El Hassan Circuit of Marrakech in Morocco where the first round of the 2014 WTCC season will be held on April 13.

Even though the 4C has been designed as a road car, it appears the car feels more at home on the race track. That is not a surprise, as the car’s specs clearly show its motorsport roots.

Alfa Romeo 4C features a carbon fiber tub like a high-end super car, and it has its engine in the middle. That engine is only a 1,750 cc four-pot, bust it’s turbocharged and makes 240 horsepower. And since the car weighs next to nothing, the performance is more than satisfying. The car is also extremely beautiful, which is probably the main reason they’ve picked it for this safety car gig.
