A while ago a teaser picture emerged from Subaru showing a suspiciously large rear spoiler finished in blue. Well, it has now become clear that it belonged to this car, the Subaru Rallycross STI, unveiled at New York International Auto Show. It’s a return to form for STI, as they have their roots in rallying.

And it’s not a concept either. The 2015 Subaru Rallycross STI is set to enter in the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship this fall. It is equipped with a huge aero kit complete with a classic roof scoop, a 600HP turbocharged Subaru boxer engine mated to a sequential gearbox with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Rally-spec suspension, racing brakes, and competition wheels with Yokohama GRC spec tires are among the other high-performance bits fitted to the Rallycross car. Rallycross is rapidly growing as a sport and attracting more and more fans every day. It is brutal bumper-to-bumper racing in a mixture of dirt and tarmac and a lot more exciting than both rallying and circuit racing.

“This unique livery design is a joint project between Subaru, the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship, and NBC for the New York International Auto Show” Stated Rob Weir, Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager. “At Subaru, we are very encouraged by the direction RedBull GRC is going. We’re looking forward to new race venues and a more intimate experience for our fans.”
