Jaguar XE Sports Sedan to get F-Type’s V6 Engine

Yesterday Jaguar accidentally revealed part of the engine lineup for the upcoming XE sports sedan on its website. They quickly changed it, but only after savvy bloggers had absorbed the information. The best piece of intel gathered from Jag’s website revealed the XE is going to get the F-Type’s V6 engine.

Jaguar XE is the British automaker’s long awaited BMW 3-Series fighter. They are extending every effort to ensure it will be able to hold its own against the mighty German, which is why they are giving the mid-size family saloon the engine from their most celebrated sports car.

The 3.0 liter V6 engine in the F-Type, equipped with a supercharger, makes around 350 horsepower. That puts the XE V6 against the 335i, Audi S4, and Mercedes C300. It will also make the Jag the most powerful, and, if the F-Type is any indication, the best-sounding of the lot.

Jaguar XE is, of course, going to be heavier than the F-Type, and it won’t be getting its trick differential and electronics. So performance figures are not going to be just as astounding. Still, a V6-powered XE should give the Bimmer a good run for its money. The XE will also be available with four-cylinder petrol and diesel units.
