Chevrolet announced the MSRP for the bi-fuel version of 2015 Impala sedan, capable of running on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and gasoline. It starts from $38,210 USD and comes in two LS base trim or a higher-equipped LT trim.

That price includes an $825 destination charge, but still, it seems like a lot for an Impala. The whole point of buying a CNG car is because you are on a tight budget and want to save some money. So why spend 38 grand on a car in the first place, while you can buy an equally desirable 20 grand sedan?

Still, the 2015 Chevrolet Impala CNG does have its charm. For one thing, it promises an expected range of 500 city miles with full gasoline and CNG tanks. And of course, CNG is considerably cheaper than gasoline, resulting in an average fuel savings of nearly $1.25 per gasoline-gallon-equivalent based on current fuel prices.

Chevrolet Impala CNG starts out running on gas and only when the fuel tank is depleted, it automatically and seamlessly switches to run on gasoline. So if you keep the CNG tank – which is by the way mounted in the trunk has the equivalent capacity of 7.8 gallons of gasoline – full at all times, the gasoline in the original tank will last forever!
