Motor Trend reviewer Carlos Lago recently got his first hit of McLaren P1 in a short drive around the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold airfield in the UK. He emerged from the experience, like every other person who has driven this thing, totally blown away by the P1’s jaw-dropping performance.

What sets Lago’s test apart from the rest is that for the first time ever he sets out to examine McLaren’s claimed performance figures for the P1. And what he arrives at is truly astonishing.

It should be noted that the conditions were not perfect at the time of this test, what with the track being very slippery from the drizzle, and the car being a test unit that’s probably beaten up. Even so, Carlos managed to record a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.6 seconds using the car’s launch control, and went on to clock 100 mph in 4.7 seconds, and reach the quarter mile mark after just 9.8 seconds while doing nearly 150 mph – pretty good going given the circumstances.
