Mazda has revealed more details about the unveiling of their highly anticipated new MX-5 Miata. This new info has nothing to do with the car itself. It serves as a sort of teaser to encourage people to tune in on September 3 when they unveil the car on the YouTube with Duran Duran.

The reason they picked Duran Duran to headline the unveiling of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 is apparently because, like the car, the band made its debut in the 80s and has been making history since. Another thing they have in common with the MX-5 is huge popularity. DD has sold over 100 million records, the Mazda very nearly a million copies. What’s more, their approach—a fusion of art, fashion, technology, and pop – seems to suit the roadster’s character.

2015 Mazda MX-5 will be unveiled in simultaneous global reveal events in Tokyo, Barcelona and Monterey.

“Duran Duran and the MX-5 Miata both made their world debuts in the 1980s and captured the hearts and imagination of an entire generation,” said Russell Wager, vice president of Marketing, MNAO. “In 25 years, both the car and the band have evolved while staying true to their roots.  It is this combination of authenticity and endurance that makes the pairing of the MX-5 and Duran Duran so appropriate for this reveal.”
