Bugatti Lake Crash 1 600x337 at Man Who Drove Bugatti Veyron Into Lake Faces Prison

Back in 2009 a Texan businessman called Andy House made headlines when he crashed his $2.2 million Bugatti Veyron into a lake. Now in 2014 his insurance company is finally done investigating the case, and decided he should be paid in an undesirable currency: 20 years in prison!

That is the sentence House is facing since he pleaded guilty to insurance fraud. From the beginning Philadelphia Insurance company was reluctant to believe the man’s story about swerving into the lake to avoid a low-flying pelican, and their suspicion grew stronger when he changed his mind and claimed he’d actually dropped his phone when he crashed.

Things came to a head when evidence emerged in form of a recording from a passing motorist which revealed there was no pelican and probably no dropped mobile phone. House, who owns an exotic car salvage yard, was promptly sued by the insurance company and is now facing up to 20 years in prison. He is also said to have tried bribery in an attempt to destroy the evidence.

Serves him right, if only for destroying a perfectly good Bugatti Veyron!
