Chevrolet Volt is without a doubt one of the most important cars of this still very young century. But recently it’s been awfully quiet, rarely making headlines anymore. Turns out Chevy is working on an all-new version of their range-extended electric vehicle, and it is all set for debut at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show.

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt will be thoroughly improved version of the existing model, and that’s all we currently know about it. Chevrolet’s press release about the new car is 90 percent praise for the current Volt, counting its virtues and awards.

A lot of that boasting is of course justified. Since its debut in 2010 Chevrolet Volt has saved more than 25 million gallons of gasoline. Volt drivers have collectively logged more than 500 million gas-free miles, averaging 970 miles between fill-ups. For a first attempt, the Volt definitely was a brilliant achievement.

What we would like to see in the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is a nicer design with a higher quality interior, plus a new powertrain with more oomph and even greater efficiency. They should also keep an eye on the cost of production, because as Cadillac found out the hard way with the ELR, ECO buyers are not keen on spending big money.
