The new generation Mazda MX-5 has only been revealed a week ago, but already we’ve seen renderings of an MPS version as well as this, the coupe version. Trouble is, both these cars are purely speculative and have almost no chance of production.
That is a shame, because the latter, Mazda MX-5 Coupe, would be a fantastic little sport car and could potentially give Toyota GT86 a good run for its money. But Mazda wants to remain loyal to the traditional sports car recipe which says the car must be open-top.
The word Mazda may not even green light a hardtop version of the new MX-5 with a folding hardtop, for concerns about weight and handling. The new model, as we’ve reported before, is not shorter, lower, wider and lighter than the car it replaces, and that makes life harder for the designer trying to come up with new variants.
But since this is just a fantasy, we take our Mazda MX-5 Coupe with a 250 horsepower turbo engine, manual gearbox, and a limited-slip diff. Thanks you!
