One of the biggest highlights of the Los Angeles Auto Show each year is the Design Challenge competition in which car makers have to come up with futuristic ideas. This year the goal is to envision the perfect runabout for the year 2029. This is the 2029 Infiniti Design Concept and it is created based on an imaginary scenario.

To get their designers going and fire up their imagination, Infiniti came up with the following story: the company is the sponsor of a triathlon for cars, with stages in Air, Rally, and Circuit. Apparently Formula 1, Infiniti’s current bread and butter, has finally gone bust by that year!

Anyway, the Infiniti Design Concept created for this challenge makes use of the next generation of augmented reality, 3D hologram and wearable technology. So in a sense it uses existing technologies and is therefore plausible. The vehicle is also adaptable and uses a universal fuselage pod for each leg of the race, which include an F1-style grand prix, a desert rally, and Gymkhana-style race up in the sky.

Infiniti Design Concept features Sym- biotic User Interface Technology which connects to the driver’s brain and lets him control the vehicle with his mind. Sounds dreary, but look at it this way: no more bitching about the lack of steering feel from motoring journalists!
