Toyota 86 Style Cb Edition Launched in Japan

The world has been waiting a long time for a new version of the Toyota GT86. Now it has arrived, but there are two problems with it. First, it is only for the Japanese market. And second, we’re not sure it is the kind of change the world had in mind!

This is the Toyota 86 Style Cb, designed exclusively for the Japanese Domestic Market in order to, in Toyota’s own words, introduce a sense of fashion to the 86’s performance-oriented disposition. It’s a noble effort, but the kind of fashion they have gone for is not that brilliant to be honest.

Toyota 86 Style Cb – Cb stands for ‘Cool Beauty’ by the way! – comes with a retro-inspired face featuring round headlights and a pointier nose than before, complete with new front grille, spoiler lip and LED lights. Some may actually dig the new design features, but all in all, we’re glad they only sell this in Japan.

As is the case with all GT86 updates, the things most in need of an upgrade, the engine and the interior, remain untouched. Actually, inside the cabin the Style Cb does come with a leather steering wheel and some wood on the dashboard, but that’s the extent of changes. The power steering is also revised, but that only has a slight effect on the way the car handles. It is still as underpowered as ever.
