By getting many things right this past decade Cadillac has managed to revitalize itself and become a serious player again in the luxury segment. But they also had some blunders, and launching the Chevy Volt-based ELR was definitely one of them. They are not giving in though, and have just come up with the 2016 Cadillac ELR featuring many updates which they hope will appeal to potential customers.

Just about the only styling modification on the 2016 Cadillac ELR is the use of the firm’s revised grille and Cadillac’s new crest. Underneath the skin though, that’s where more substantial changes have happened in hope of making the ELR an impeccably good luxury EV.

The car comes with revised electric drive system increases power and torque by more than 25 percent, thus reducing the 0-60 time by 1.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds. The ELR offers a range of 330 miles (530 km), 39 miles (60 km) of which can be done using electricity alone.

Meanwhile the engineers have heavily revised the car’s HiPer Strut front suspension and fiddled with damping and spring rates to simultaneously improve the handling and enhance the ride quality. It’s a tough trick to pull off, but they think they have done it. They have even thrown in a revised steering calibration to complement the improved chassis.

In the goodies department, 2016 Cadillac ELR is equipped with new 20-inch summer-only performance tires, front Brembo brakes, sport steering wheel with a thicker rim for a sportier feel, and nStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. Prices for the new model start from $58,495 (after U.S. federal tax credits).
