The current generation Mercedes SL Type R231 is not the best-looking sports roadster in the world. In fact it is widely regarded as an oddball, what with those huge headlights wide hips. But if you get the specs and the color right, you can still end up with a SL that looks properly hot.
This brown Mercedes SL65 AMG is exactly what we’re talking about. Granted, brown is the first color that pops into mind when you think of a paint job for a 630 horsepower sports car. But you see this one of Mercedes’ exclusive colors you can only get from AMG Performance Studio. We showed you a slightly different shade of this color on a Mercedes G63 AMG just a few days ago.
The unique paint job and the 65 AMG visual treatment – which includes sports bumpers with carbon spoiler and diffuser as well as large matte black wheels – give this particular Mercedes SL a very desirable look. The SL65 might be more powerful than a Ferrari Enzo, but it is first and foremost about luxury, and this is the kind of appearance a luxury sports roadster should have – dignified and classy.
Mercedes SL 65 AMG R231 is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbocharged engine which develops a maximum output of 463 kW (630 hp) and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. It comes with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds.
