Continuing their two-decade partnership with MotoGP organization, BMW revealed a new safety car for the upcoming season. Ensuring the safety of the riders this year is the handsome BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car which is based on the new production model.

One would think BMW has to be content with MotoGP because Mercedes has a monopoly over Formula 1 safety cars. But that’s not true, because for one thing BMW is not in F1 anymore. Instead, they’ve been focusing on MotoGP mainly because they do have a flourishing motorcycle business with everything from mountain bikes to super bikes. In fact, they are so happy with the relationship, they’ve extended the contract to 2020.

As with the previous high-performance MotoGP M fleet, BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car is track-oriented production model that is more than capable of handling tactical circuits and keeping up with the ferocious super bikes. The 365 horsepower straight-six-powered sports car is hailed as the M GmbH’s new golden boy. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155 mph. The safety car is stock in terms of performance, but gets a unique livery as well as a roll bar, radio equipment, M Performance kit, sport seats, and a light bar.
