Now that we’ve all got a good look at the new Porsche 718 Cayman at the Beijing Auto Show, where the German sports car made its debut, the company wants to show us what this thing is all about. So they closed off an entire city in the early hours of the morning and sent the new Cayman out for a spot of ‘spirited driving.’

The promo video certainly looks very interesting and it does a good job of making you want a Porsche 718 Cayman because you think you can experience the same sense of freedom shown in the footage with it. And you probably can. The thing is, the current, six-cylinder Cayman does that beautifully and it looks a helluva lot better, too. We can think of no good reason why anyone would want to upgrade to the 718, but here it is.

The new Porsche 718 Cayman, in both its regular diet version and spicy S model, comes with a turbocharged four-pot motor. In the former the motor is a 2.0 liter that makes 300 horsepower, whereas the latter gets a 2.5 liter unit with 350 horsepower. You can have the car with a manual, but really to get the performance out of it you need the dual-clutch PDK transmission.
