The first photos of what appears to be the next limited edition McLaren have hit the web. Dubbed McLaren 688 HS, the new model is a sort of road-going 650S GT3 with a massive aero kit, lighter weight, and a bit more power than the current most potent Mac.

That means McLaren 688 HS is based on the 675LT but as the name suggests it produces 688 horsepower. That is, of course, not remarkable. What is, is the fact that the HS – which stands for High Sport – is considerably lighter than the LongTail thanks to a racing car-inspired aero kit and other weight saving measures. So it should, in theory at least, be a lot quicker.

Limited to just 25 copies, McLaren 688 HS is designed and built by the firm’s Special Operation unit known as the MSO for only a handful of their most special customers. The car features a huge front splitter with extra flaps and canards, naked carbon bonnet and roof, revised rear apron and a tall GT3 rear wing. These tell us the HS is meant more for track days rather than public roads. But as we know from McLaren’s previous High Sport model, they are also highly collectible items.
