Hyundai America released the official details and pricing of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco, boasting a new face and an extra-frugal engine with an EPA estimated rating of 35 mpg. Granted, that’s not particularly impressive, but then neither is the car’s starting price of just $20,650.

With an average annual fuel cost of just $900, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco promises to very light on your wallet while offering a decent in terms of looks and features. That said, we think the new face is actually worse than the one on the previous model. For some reason they have made the car look like the Accent, which is a pretty basic Eco model.

But hey, those who choose a car with ‘Eco’ in its name don’t usually care much about styling anyway. What they want is feature, and in that aspect 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco does not disappoint. You get as standard a seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Lane Change Asist, proximity key with push-button start, heated front seats, dual automatic temperature control and a leather wrapped shift knob and steering wheel with audio, cruise and Bluetooth controls.

The engine powering the new Eco Elantra is the firm’s 1.4L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder mated to a 7-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission. It generates only 128-horsepower and 156 lb.-ft. torque, so while it won’t cost you much to travel in this car, you will be late wherever it is you are going.
