One of the defining features of the Mazda MX-5 is that the car is so light and well-balanced, it doesn’t need big power to be enjoyable. But what if you add more power to it anyway? Well, you will end up with something like this BBR Mazda MX-5, which is like a terrier on crystal meth!
The British tuning firm has a range of power upgrade kits for the 2.0 liter Mazda MX-5, the most powerful of which is good for 214 bhp and 183 lb.ft. But that is yet to be launched. If you want a BBR Mazda MX-5 right now you have to settle for the 205 bhp and 179 lb.ft kit, which is still pretty decent (standard 160 bhp) and shaves nearly two seconds off the car’s 0-60 time.
Priced at £2795.00 including installation, BBR Mazda MX-5 with the Super 200 package includes high performance replacement billet steel intake and exhaust camshafts with upgraded valve springs and retainers, a bespoke 4 into 1 tuned length stainless steel exhaust manifold and a specially developed cold air intake system, as well as the tuner’s StarChip ECU software package, which includes revised fuel, ignition and cam timing calibration.
The tuner also offers a number of chassis upgrade options such as Koni adjustable dampers and BBR lowering springs, BBR / Eibach anti-roll bar kit, and BBR / Willwood brake upgrade featuring lightweight calipers and performance pads.
