Hyundai turned up at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show with a new version of their Genesis sedan which is being prepared for launch next year as a 2018 model. It’s called the Genesis G80 Sport, and as the name indicates it is a more athletic take on the luxury saloon powered by a sprightly 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

This was the engine we have been hearing a lot about this past couple of years. But we were expecting to see it in the new Genesis Coupe. Still, the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport could be the harbinger of that highly anticipated car, even though at this rate the coupe will not be out until at least 2019.

In any case, the 3.3T motor in the Genesis G80 Sport is a marvelous engine developing 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a sport-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire technology which, in combination with Continuous Damping Control suspension and a lot of dark chrome accents, gives the Sport in the car’s name some meaning.

Other highlights of the G80 Sport which could make it a nicer choice than the standard version include 19-inch dark alloy wheels, carbon fiber interior trim plus leather seats and steering wheel with copper contrast stitching as well as aluminum sport pedals, and a whole host of features such as 9.2-inch touchscreen navigation, multi-view camera, LED headlights with Dynamic Bending Light, wireless charger and Lexicon premium audio system.
