The fans of super reliable, super practical, but slightly dull and uninteresting crossovers will be happy to know there is a new Subaru Crosstrek, also known as the XV, in the pipeline. Set for debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March, the new model features, according to the manufacturer, a personality packed exterior.

While that seems like good news, it may not be what the traditional Subaru Crosstrek customer base wants. You see, the unassuming looks of this car is exactly what a lot of people are after in a family car and the reason many believe the XV is a cool crossover. There is a saying that if you can lose your car in a parking lot because it just doesn’t stand out, that is a cool car. It doesn’t attract any attention to itself. It’s just a good car doing what it’s supposed to do brilliantly without making a big fuss about it.

That seems to have changed in the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek (XV). If the production model is anything like the XV concept revealed last year it is going to be a glitz ball designed with the latest trends in mind. To be fair though while that might drive some people away from the XV, it will attract new, younger buyers to it. And as long as it retains all the good qualities like reliability, affordability and versatility, it is going to do just fine in the market.
