The Germans never really got over the fact that an American firm could improve their pride and joy, the vintage Porsche 911, and turn it into the artwork we now know as the Singer 911. Now they have actually done something about it as they introduce the 2017 RUF CTR at the Geneva Motor Show. The new retro-modern 911 is slap in the face for the amerikaner.

A tribute to the 1987 CTR “Yellow Bird,” the 2017 RUF CTR is a modern car wrapped in a modern carbon fiber body designed to look like a car four decades old. It gets all the details right down to the center-locking 19-inch forged alloy wheels, but just like the Singer there is a roundness and neatness about the whole design that lets you know it is a product of the 21st century. As mentioned the body is made from carbon fiber – in fact the CTR is the world’s first rear-engine carbon monocoque road car – which means it is fairly light and has a superb power to weight ratio.

Speaking of power, 2017 RUF CTR boasts a twin-turbo 3.6L flat-six engine developing 522 kw (710 PS), 880 Nm (649 lb-ft), all of which is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gear box. With a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 in under 9 seconds, and a top speed of 360 km/h (223 mph), the RUF sure has Singer licked in terms of performance. The car has a minimalist two-seat interior the highlights of which include carbon fiber seats,  aluminum pedals, three-spoke steering wheeland analog dial-type gauges in a green typeface.
