Further strengthening their initiative to make electric vehicles that give customers greater capability, Ford has come up with a new Fusion hybrid police car. To be deployed first in Los Angeles and New York, the all-new Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan promises to save the departments running it $3,900 a year in potential fuel bills. 

As the industry’s first pursuit-rated hybrid police car, the new Ford cruiser uses an efficient Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor fed by an advanced lithium-ion battery calibrated for law enforcement unique needs. The car runs on battery only at speed below 60 mph and automatically switches to maximum performance mode with both motors running when speed is needed. While idling, the Police Responder Hybrid Sedan’s lithium-ion battery helps power the high electrical loads of a police vehicle, reducing engine run time and saving an estimated 0.27 gallons of fuel per hour.The system is projected to achieve an average fuel consumption of 38 mpg.

The Police Responder Hybrid Sedan can be ordered from spring 2017 and will be delivered to police departments nationwide in summer 2018.
