It is almost time for BMW to release the hot version of the new 5 Series and so they decided to whet our appetite by released a teaser trailer confirming the super sedan’s all-wheel-drive option. That’s right, the 2018 BMW M5 xDrive breaks the tradition of these cars being only rear-drive, but that is not such a bad thing, especially as you can make the car 2WD at the touch of a button.

You see, the new M xDrive all-wheel-drive system featured in the 2018 BMW M5 xDrive is quite a sophisticated one with a unique governing software BMW is particularly proud of. Granted, there is that familiar BMW complexity as the system offers five different configurations based on combinations of the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD). But if you get the setting just right this car can take you to motoring nirvana.

Also confirmed for the 2018 BMW M5 xDrive is the 4.4 liter bi-turbo V8 and an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, although performance figures are yet to be revealed. Well, at least we know there is no downsizing for the time being. BMW also promises the acceleration times are going to boggle your mind, and that there is certain naughtiness engineered into the new M5 that makes it not only a perfect family car, but also extremely good one for those rare occasions where you can really use the car’s capabilities. And that’s how an M5 should be: a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
