BMW Roadster Concept Teased for 2017 Pebble Beach

BMW Roadster Concept 600x306 at BMW Roadster Concept Teased for 2017 Pebble Beach

The two major automotive concourse events of the year, Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach, are venues for BMW to unveil their most important concepts. So after giving us the new 8 Series at Villa d’Este next month they are coming to Pebble Beach with a new BMW Roadster Concept.

And just like that 8 Series there is more to this bad boy than just being a showpiece. The BMW Roadster Concept is teased here in a secretive sketch showing only some very sharp angles and a roof arrangement that is more Targa-like than roadster. The reason it is believed to be a roadster though is because this concept is supposedly a preview for the next BMW Z4 which by the way maybe called the Z5.

Buy even if that is not the case and the Pebble Beach-bound BMW Roadster Concept has nothing to do with the next Z4, it is still something to celebrate as it shows BMW’s sports car design is once again shifting toward sharp and exciting forms. The Z4, to be brutally honest, was a weak tea with way too many curves and soft surfaces. Its predecessor, the Z3, had a controversial design but at least it was provocative and exciting. We’d be really glad if the next model uses the Z3 as inspiration rather than the Z4.
