Mercedes-Benz are not really known for their eccentricity, but every one in a while they let their engineers roam free and come up with some truly amazing stuff. This Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² is one such thing, built a maverick engineers in his free time.

Now, before you get too excited we should point out the wonderfully insane Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² is a one-off, fun project with, at the moment, zero chance of production. That said, there are some words in the dark corners of the auto blogsphere suggesting the company’s top brass are actually considered making this car in extremely small numbers. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

As for what inspired the creation of Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² besides its engineer love of odd things, the main influence has clearly been the G500 4×4², a limited-run SUV whose axles they have borrowed for the All-Terrain E. The rest of the car is an E400 All-Terrain, garnished with some stickers and extra large fender flares. Calling this thing an All-terrain is a bit of a misnomer seeing as the whole point of all-terrain cars is that they are not as tall and high-riding as SUVs. This one, though, is high as a Hummer. That quality – being high – is what we reckon the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² shares with its creator!
