Mitsubishi will show up at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show with a new version of the Outlander SUV.

This Outlander looks very outlandish with that weird grille and headlights. But they say it’s a very tough and solid car and has excellent quality. It has a particularly nice interior with high grade materials such as padded surfaces, soft-touch finish, silver accents, gloss black appliqués, plus ergonomic steering wheel controls as well as high-resolution and easy-to-read instrument displays.

In Europe, the New Generation Outlander will offer at launch the choice between two low impact engines (whether in 2WD or 4WD): 2.0 l MIVEC petrol or 2.2 MIVEC Clean Diesel (MMC’s own 4N14 engine) Depending on market, model, engine and specifications, Auto Stop & Go will be available, as well as an all-new 6-speed automatic gearbox.

In 2013 there will be an EV-based plug-In hybrid powertrain added to the range, promising over 800 km of range and CO2 of below 50 g/km.

Mitsubishi will first launch the car in Russia this summer, prior to European (late summer), Japanese, Oceania, Chinese and North American debuts.

Mitsubishi released a rather revealing teaser shot for an upcoming premium model set for debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The only fact revealed so far about the car is that it reflects a gradual transformation in Mitsubishi’s design language. It is part of MMC’s “Jump 2013” business plan which will spawn an all-new generation of greener global products.

The transformation is gradual because according to Mitsu this re-focused design language is still being formulated. Here’s how they describe it: “Refined yet assertive, this new engineering-driven look can be understood as the new expression of Mitsubishi’s near century old tradition of technology tailored for today’s world – the one that recently brought i-MiEV, the 4N1 Clean Diesel engine, Green Plastics and the same one that will bring innovative proprietary PHEV technologies next year, based on MMC’s state-of-the-art electric vehicle know-how that led to i-MiEV, prior to other future significant breakthroughs…“

Good, but all we want to know is when the new Lancer is due?

Mitsubishi UK announced pricing and specs of the 12MY ASX compact crossover, as the first batch arrive in the old country.

The ASX is based on the same platform as Lancer Evolution X, so it should do things rather well when the going gets rough. But it has one big downer and that’s the engine.

It has a 116PS 1.8-litre DiD diesel engine which is more at home in a food blender than this rather sizable car. In theory, it should be able to do 54.3mpg and 136g/km CO2, but in the real world you have to rev the nuts off it to go anywhere, and that hurts the economy. That’s always a problem with small diesel engines.

The other choice is a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 47.1mpg and 139 g/km.

The ASX promises a high level of safety for its occupants as it comes with ABS anti-lock braking, Active Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist an Emergency Stop Signal System and 7 airbags, all as standard.

The good old Mitsubishi Shogun, or Pajero if you are outside UK, has been given a fresh new look with the UK-only Black special edition.

The main feature of the Black treatment is the satin black styling kit which includes striking black 20” alloy wheels, roof, spoiler, wing mirrors, grille and headlamp bezels, fog lamp surrounds, door handles and side steps.

They’re cool, but the Shogun has a very old design and it’s hard to conceal it with some mascara.

The car is based on the 3.2 Di-D LWB version with 197bhp and 441Nm of torque, a choice of five colors including Frost White (Solid), Cool Silver (Metallic), Diamond Black (Pearlescent), Orient Red (Metallic), Granite Brown (Metallic), and a range of standard features.

Shogun Black comes with New high-quality material leather upholstery, enhanced illumination for instruments, brushed silver finish for power window control panels, as well as new up-to-date equipments such as satellite navigation, reversing camera, and iPod connection.

The Mitsubishi Shogun Black is priced £1,000 above the SG4 model at £41,999. If you want the metallic color that adds another £540.

Other features include:

• Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC)
• Auto lights, auto wipers and privacy glass
• A colour coded spare wheel cover as standard
• Brake override system – in case the driver accidentally hits the brake and accelerator at the same time (the car automatically opts for the safer braking option)

There is a new special edition of Mitsubishi ASX crossover for the British market called Black, featuring enhanced exterior and interior.

Although it’s called the Black, the car is available in range of colors including Kingfisher Blue (Metallic), Polar White (Solid), Cool Silver (Metallic), Amethyst Black (Pearlescent), Atlantic Grey (Metallic) and Orient Red (Metallic).

That Black refers mostly to the satin black styling kit which includes striking black 17” alloy wheels, roof, spoiler, mirrors, grille and fog lamp bezels. The interior benefits from the addition of a special edition black leather kit featuring carbon fibre inserts.

The ASX Black can be had with two engines, a 1.6 liter with 115bhp @ 6,000 rpm, 114lb.ft @ 4,000 rpm, or a 1.8 DiD turbodiesel engine with 147bhp @ 4,000 rpm, 221lb.ft @ 2,000-3,000 rpm. Only the diesel can be specified with 4×4 system.

Standard features of the car include Kenwood satellite navigation system, Reversing camera, iPod connection, and Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC). The Black costs an extra £1,000 over the MSRP, which is £21,099 for the ASX 4 1.6 2wd Manual, £23,299 for the ASX 4 1.8 DI-D 2WD Manual and £25,399ASX 4 1.8 DI-D 4WD Manual.

Mitsubishi will be taking part in its home motor show in Tokyo with no less than 15 vehicles. Two major debuts are the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV II.

These new models are so important to the Japanese company that they call them pillars of the ‘JUMP 2013’ mid-term business plan.

The Concept PX-MiEV II is Mitsu’s green SUV for the future, powered by the latest plug-in hybrid PHEV system. MMC’s unique plug-in hybrid system fuses EV technology derived from the Mitsubishi i-MiEV with a small conventional engine that features MMC’s latest fuel and environmental efficiency technologies. Fuel economy of this car is 60km per litre, which gives it a range of over 800 km. It can also cover over 50 km in all-electric mode.

Other amazing feature of this car is the newly developed twin-motor four-wheel-drive system mated to Mitsubishi’s S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control) advanced traction control system. Mitsubishi says it will result in great driving pleasure with 100% instant off-the-line torque, and great maneuverability.

The Mirage is a compact global car focused on efficiency, and has a projected economy of 30km per litre through a variety of measures including painstaking reduction in weight throughout almost every part of the car, reduction in rolling resistance and higher efficiency through detailed improvements to the engine, transmission, brakes and tyres, and an aerodynamic body that reduces air resistance and drag.

It will be first launched in Thailand where it’s made in early 2012.

The Mitsubishi Mirage Specification – Japanese market version

Mitsubishi has put too much effort into making the i-MiEV electric car to just sell it in Japan and parts of Europe. They are also sending the car to America.

But they are cautious and will send it first to Hawaii as well as the United States’ western coastal states of California, Washington, and Oregon from the end of November this year. Then if everything was alright, by the end of 2012 it’ll become available nationwide and also in Canada.

The US-Spec i-MiEV features new front and rear bumpers for enhanced protection and stability along with a larger body. It also has more torque, so it should be a bit better to drive. But at the end of the day, it is an electric, fairly ugly, urban commuter. So don’t expect much.

One other difference that the American i-MiEV has over its European version is the safety features. The car comes with an advanced airbag system that detects passengers’ seating position and controls deployment force, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to conform to North American safety requirements.

Mitsubishi released a new ModelYear of its Shogun (Pajero) full-size SUV in the British market.

The Shogun looks quite old-fashion now, but it is still an interesting car thanks to its long and glorious history as a touch and functional off-roader. The new one omes with a Euro V compliant turbo diesel engine and offers a choice of either three door short-wheel base or five door long-wheel base versions.

In additoin to the re-designed front grille, all variants will benefit from new 18” alloy wheels. The lineup includes four trim levels of SG2, SG3, SG4 and the Warrior which sits above SG2 in terms of equipments.

Prices for the new model year Mitsubishi Shogun range from just £29,499 for the entry level SG2 model and rise to £40,999 for the higher specification SG4 model.

The next Mitsubishi Lancer Evo will be a hybrid car, confirms Mitsu CEO Osamu Masuko.

What’s more, the hybrid Evo is said to be a diesel-electric! So, does that mean the ultimate road-going rally car is going to be ruined?

Well, we are going to have to wait for technical details to emerge and then judge it. But according to Autocar the Hybrid Evo will do 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds. If that’s true, it won’t disappoint in terms of speed. And seeing as it will get a revised version of current S-AWC four-wheel drive system, which integrates braking, steering and traction control, it will be just as good, if not better to drive.

And it does all that while emitting no more than 200 g/km CO2.So going green doesn’t necessarily mean the Evo will become less of a sportscar.

The next generation Evo will go on sale in three years.

This special edition of Mitsubishi Eclipse will be last model of this lovely car, as the Japanese car maker will cease its production in 2012.

That’s sad. The thing about the Eclipse is, it could be a cheaper alternative for Audi TT, but it never lived up to the expectations. And Mitsu never really tried to make it better. Instead they decided to just drop it.

Available as both Eclipse Coupe and Eclipse Spyder, the SE features a number of visual features including special “SE” side decaling, black side mirrors and handsome 18-in. dark finish alloy wheels, along with the extensive list of high-end standard features that can be found on the Eclipse GS-Sport versions of both the hardtop and convertible models.

Base GS models are powered by a 162 horsepower, normally-aspirated 2.4-liter SOHC MIVEC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder engine. The better-equipped GT version gets a 265 horsepower, 3.8-liter SOHC MIVEC 24-valve V-6 that is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Standard safety equipment on all Eclipse models includes 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); Active Stability Control (ASC) and Traction Control Logic (TCL); and advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) and side air bags. Side curtain air bags are included on the Eclipse Coupe.

As for the equipments, all models come as standard with items like a 6 speaker 140-watt AM/FM/CD player with MP3 playing capability and an auxiliary audio input jack, air conditioning, 6 airbags, dual exhaust, blacked-out roof, 18-in. alloy wheels and automatic shut off headlights. The Eclipse GS Coupe comes equipped with a smooth-shifting 5-speed manual while a 4-speed automatic transmission is available as an option.

Some of the options include leather seating with heated front seats and a power driver’s seat, rearview camera, Bluetooth® hands-free phone access, HID headlights with fog lamps, heated side mirrors and an exquisite sounding 9 speaker, 650-watt Rockford Fosgate® premium audio system with SIRIUS® satellite radio. The coupe version of the Eclipse GS-Sport includes a sunroof as well.

The world of rallying has always seemed like much more fun to us than F1. Granted, it’s not just as cool and prestigious as F1, but it is much more of a spectator sport because of its amazing scenery, day to day cars, and of course crashes, scenes like this one! This Mitsubishi Evo, a contender in 2011 Targa Tasmania Rally, hits a corner at 190 km/h, takes off and flies for a good 35 meters before it ends up in the middle of a field. Such an awesome crash!

We’re hearing some very bad news suggesting that one of the finest high performance saloons of all time is about to bite the dust. Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi’s global product director, has told Autocar that Lancer Evolution X will be the last of the Evo breed.

Now before we get to Eusegi’s reasons for that decision, one may wonder if it’s not for the Evo, what is the point of having Mitsubishi at all?!

I mean that is the only interesting car they make. But they don’t care about that. What they want is to become one of the world’s leaders in developing electric cars. Mitsubishi is is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015. The Evo projects get canceled and the funds go to cars like the e-compact which is a pathetic little city car to be made in Thailand. Fantastic!

“There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.“Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”.

The Lancer Evo might not be as involved with rallying as it used to be – well, to be honest it has lost all its rally glory a long time ago – but there’s still a big demand for the road going monster. The demise of Lancer Evo will make Subaru very happy, because they will have that market all to themselves with the Impreza which is going to get a thorough upgrade for its next model.

Now with all the hybrid electrics Mitsubishi has in development, you would imagine that the Evo will comeback in a few years sporting a hybrid badge. Mitsu’s official doesn’t rule out that possibility.

The competition in the B-segment is really hotting up. Mitsubishi is the next car maker to release details of their contender as the Globlal Small Platform called the e-compact.

This concept is only a preview of the real car, which will be unveiled in production form towards the end of this year, prior to a start of production scheduled for early 2012. This small car is 3.7 meters long and 1.7 meters wide and can be powered by a range of 1.0 and 1.2 liter MIVEC engine equipped with Auto Stop and start system and regenerative braking technology and 185/55 R 16 low rolling resistance tires.

In spite of its small size, the e-compact can accommodate five adults inside the cabin. This concept will be the base for the next generation Mitsubishi Colt.

Global product of the “Global Village” This new Mitsubishi will be proposed as an entry model for emerging markets as well as a fuel efficient car in developed markets. As such, this all-new e-compact project shall be MMC’s answer to some fundamental evidences. With 80% of its total output bound for export, Mitsubishi Motors ought to take into consideration the trend towards globalization in trade and communications, no matter the market segment.

“e” for “effective design”: as a daily reliable runabout equally at ease crossing the bush, tackling megapole traffic or blasting highways (within speed limits), the Mitsubishi e-compact was styled with no-nonsense efficiency-first in mind. Robust looking yet enjoying sophisticated aerodynamics, it should grace traffic nonetheless with a friendly face.

“e” for “export”: the first of its kind, “Global Small” will be built at MMC’s dedicated hub of Laem Chabang Industrial Estate in the Chonburi province of Thailand. The forecasted annual volume of 150,000 units (with a possible increase to 200,000 units) will be exported to the ASEAN countries , Japan, North Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and many other markets around the world.

Mitsubishi UK confirmed official pricing and specifications of the Lancer 1.5 Juro special edition model. based on the current Lancer 1.5 GS2, this model is loaded with extra features but costs only £14,749 including free metallic paint and VAT. That is incredibly good value. After all it’s a Lancer, not just as hot as an EVO, but a Lancer nevertheless!

The Juro features black leather upholstery and a Kenwood integrated satellite navigation system which also includes a reversing camera as standard. The Kenwood multimedia system comprises integrated Garmin Satellite Navigation, Parrott Bluetooth, iPod connection lead and reversing camera. It also includes a steering wheel control interface allowing the operation of the factory fitted steering wheel mounted controls.

Lancer 1.5 Juro petrol vehicle will be available in Cool Silver, Stone Grey, Orient Red, Amethyst Black, and Lightening Blue.

As for the safety features, the Juro lacks nothing with next-generation Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) design plus advanced dual front airbag Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags, plus a driver’s knee airbag. This vehicle has a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Mitsubishi has come up with a new mid-term business plan called “Jump 2013? in which they will redirect their efforts towards fast-growing, emerging markets of electric cars and on environmental initiatives. By reforming cost structure, Jump 2013 aims for “growth and a leap forward”.

The Japanese car maker has plans to launch electric-powered vehicles till 2015 to reduce environmental impact. That includes introduction of new hybrid models for 2013 globally strategic models such as compact cars and SUVs, for which high demand is expected, especially in emerging markets. Both development process and product range will be streamlined by discontinuing region-specific model production. One other important model for Mitsubishi in the emerging markets is the new Global Small Car set for debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The new policies will increase FY2013 retail sales volume by 280,000 units over the FY2010 forecast. Unfortunately though, in the emerging markets that are important to Mitsubishi there’s not much room for high performance models. So don’t expect to see a new special edition of Lancer every year. I mean we should just be happy they keep making it! Also, don’t be surprised if they announced a hybrid version of this rally-bred car.

MMC will strengthen its production capacity in emerging markets to respond to the range of growing demands in those regions. In Thailand, MMC will build a third factory, making it the second-largest exportation hub after only Japan; in China, MMC will strengthen production capacity by reinforcing a joint venture with a local partner; and in Russia, MMC will start production of a new SUV. At the same time, production capacity at Japanese, US and European production hubs will be adjusted to target sales volumes. The US hub will introduce a new model for both domestic and export sale. As for its European hub, MMC has decided not to introduce a successor to the region-specific Colt model. Finally, in Japan, MMC will proceed with a minicar joint venture with Nissan to increase domestic production volume and streamline plant operations.

While the business environment is undergoing such substantial changes, MMC will make fundamental reforms in cost structure via a Cost Reduction Implementation Committee under the direction of the president. By measures such as counteraction of yen appreciation by expansion of overseas procurement, MMC targets a 90 billion yen decrease in FY2013 material costs over the FY2010 forecast. Together with global production expansion, MMC will also enhance efforts to sustain worldwide Mitsubishi brand quality level.

Alongside the ongoing business alliance with PSA Peugeot Citro?n, MMC has expanded its business cooperation with Nissan. MMC will act decisively to form alliances with potential business partners in individual project areas with foreseeable merits, to increase opportunities and strengthen profitability.

Through these efforts, FY2013 target sales are set at 2.5 trillion yen (FY2010 forecast: 1.9 trillion yen); operating income at 90 billion yen (FY2010 forecast: 45 billion yen); and net income at 45 billion yen (FY2010 forecast:15 billion yen). Resumption of dividends is targeted by improvements in financial structure and bolstering of profit levels within the planned period.

The new Mitsubishi Global Small car that was teased a couple of weeks ago will be revealed at the 81st Geneva Motor Show this March as a concept. Global Platforms are what most of manufacturers are developing these days to keep the costs low. The main features them include “compact”, “affordability”, and “high fuel efficiency”.

Mitsubishi’s small car will have to rival similar cars from Nissan and Mazda, until more car makers come up with one. And for starters, the Mitsu looks much better than both cars. The features of the MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small include good maneuverability and easy operation, an inherent of a compact car, accomplished in to a highly efficient package that can comfortably seat five adults.

The car will be powered by a 1.0 or 1.2 liter compact engine equipped with idling stop mechanism and regenerative braking system. It’ll also feature an aerodynamic weight-optimized body, reduced running resistance in the engine, new-generation CVT, brakes, and tires, all for the sake of efficiency and low CO2 emissions. The CO2 target is in the mid-90g/km range.

The production of the new Small car will begin a year later in Thailand.

At 2011 Geneva show MMC will display a total of 12 vehicles (6 during press days), including vehicles already on sale in Europe, in addition to the 100% electric i-MiEV.

The next Japanese car maker, after Nissan with the Micra and Honda with the Brio, to build a new factory and make a new model in Thailand is Mitsubishi. The car they have in mind is a “global small” 1.0-1.2L class compact vehicle which as shown in these renderings, is going to be better looking than rivals from Nissan and Honda.

The car, planned to go on sale in 2011, will be produced by Mitsubishi Motors Thailand (MMTh) at the site where the new factory is to be built in at the Laem Chabang Industrial Estate in Chonburi province. Initially, the production capacity of this new factory will be around the 150,000-unit per year level, and in the future it can be boosted to the 200,000-unit per year level. The new factory is planned to hire around 3,000 new staffs.

The basic qualities Mitsu has in mind for the new Global Small car include “compact,” “affordability,” and “fuel efficiency”. will conform to Thailand’s Eco-car Project, implemented by the Thai government with the objective of promoting investment in Thailand’s automobile industry and reduction of dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.

Minister Chaiwut Bannawat expressed his pleasure at the ceremony: “It’s my great pleasure that Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s factory becomes a part of our Eco-car Project. This Mitsubishi factory will bring to Thailand many technologies for automobile production and lead to improve labor skills for auto industry as well as related industries.”
In addition, MMC President Masuko added “It’s a great honor to have this memorable day for the construction of the third factory. From the beginning, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has strongly believed in Thailand’s potential as the production hub for global markets; now Mitsubishi Motors Thailand became the production base of our 1-ton pickup. We share the Thai government’s environmental concerns and we have made Thailand the global production hub for the “global small.”

Mitsubishi announced its lineup for the Los Angeles Auto Show and besides the Outlander Sport compact CUV their other premiere i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle. The American version of this small urban commuter has some differences over the Japanese and European version, chief among which is the enhanced, enlarged body.

That does not change the fact the i-MiEV is a tiny car! But it’s nearly 30cm longer and 11cm wider than the Japanese version. n addition, the North American-spec i-MiEV’s front and rear bumpers are all-new.
