This, you might think, is stupid. The M5 F10 is a saloon car, and the Nissan GTR a purpose-built sports coupe, so they can’t be compared. But, if you look at the stats of these cars, they are remarkably similar in a number of critical ways. They both have around 550hp, they cost roughly the same, and they are both designed for maximum performance. This is an interesting challenge then. Hit the jump and watch Bavaria taking on Tokyo!

It’s highly unlikely that you are already bored with your new BMW M5. But if you are, PP-Performance has just the kit to liven things up a bit.

They do that using the magic of electronics. By refining the M5′s 4.4 liter V8′s ECU, PP manages to extract another 60 horses, driving the power output from the standard 560hp and 680 Nm of torque, to 620hp and 750 Nm.

That won’t have that big an effect on the car’s performance, it’ll probably shave a few tenths of a second off its 0 to 100km/h sprint time. But then it’s those tenth of seconds that are crucial in a drag race.

The 620hp kit is the stage I of German tuner’s program for the M5F10, and it’s priced at a very reasonable 3,499 euros. They do have a stage II in the works with… God knows how much horsepower.

America is not the land of the free, Germany is. It is the only country in the world where you can legally do 357 km/h (233 mph) on public roads, in the middle of the day. For that, besides the Autobahn, you are going to need a G-Power BMW M5 Hurricane RS, because it is one of the few cars in the world capable of achieving such speed. BMW doesn’t have a particularly new and interesting model to show at this year’s Detroit Motor Show, but they do have some bloody good news!

They officially announced that the M5 F10 will be offered with a proper 6-speed manual gearbox. The manual M5 will be available from the start of production this summer and will be offered as a no-cost alternative to the standard 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT).

The new gearbox will come with a short throw shift linkage topped with a black leather backlit shift knob. The ratios have been optimized for acceleration, flexibility and fuel economy, and BMW promises you won’t miss that extra gear of the DCT, mainly because you’ll be having too much fun to give a damn about the number of gears.

What’s weird though, is that it’s only for the U.S.-spec M5s. Now, last time we checked the Americans weren’t that big on stick shifts, but here we are.

BMW should offer this in Europe as well. We hope it provokes AMG to also offer a manual gearbox option for their hot rods.

Those nicely composed powerslides you see on your screen are not always as tidy and neat as they seem. Lot of work goes into them, not all of which done by the car and the driver. You have to also give it to the director and the editors.

Looking at the BMW M5′s discrete and understated styling you wouldn’t believe it is such a good dancer. Granted, with 560 hp on the tap it’s not that hard sliding the back-end, but the poise and delicacy of the car is astonishing. It is still a big comfy family saloon don’t forget. This car has a demon in it which, when the mood takes you, jumps out and acts like a complete hoon, as demonstrated by Autocar guys after the jump.

I know you’ve seen it a thousand times, but honestly, who can get enough of the new BMW M5. This car is a rare thing. Something that cannot be faulted in any way. A car that every bit of it is so lovable. From the 560 hp V8 to the aggressive but discrete tailpipes, there is not a single place where the M5 F10 is anything but spectacular.

The first one released by BMW USA is a nice 90-second review of the car by BMW USA’s M department boss and includes some cool footage of the car on road and track:

The second video is an independent dyno test of the car. Now, dynos are a sort of lie detector for engines, and more often than not power figures shown by them are less than what the manufacturer claims.

In BMW M5′s case however, what you get on the dyno is about 20 hp more than what BMW says this car makes! That’s how brilliant this car is.

Before getting to the car we have a more pressing issue to address. Is this the first time Vicky Butler Henderson wears a skirt on television? She should do that more often. Anyhow, she takes the wheel of 2012 BMW M5 first doing some celebratory powerslides in honor of the car’s new turbochargers and massive power, and then sets about seeing how these new stuff have transformed the M5.

German tuner G Power has started out working on the new BMW M5 F10 and they are so excited about it. They haven’t done anything yet, but released a teaser to announce the first stage of tuning for the M5′s 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 is good for 620-hp. G Power as you know is famous for their world’s fastest sedans based on the old M5, the Hurricanes. It is only a matter of time before they come up with a new Hurricane M5. It’s going to be fast and destructive. You’ve been warned!

I know, it’s hard not to swear in reaction to the way this car accelerates! It is simply amazing for a four-door luxury sedan. It passes 100 km/h in just over 3 seconds and before it changes to four, the needle is at 200. It is only after hitting 300 that you need to engage the sixth gear for that extra 15 km/h. And listen to that turbo wastegate. The M5 really is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

BMW UK announced specs and pricing of the British M5, and released new pictures of the car in black and gray.

The fifth generation M5 is powered by a high-revving 4.4-litre (4,395cc) V8 developing 560 hp and 6680 Nm of torque, incorporating the company’s M TwinPower Turbo technology, twin-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve control and a cross-bank exhaust manifold.

Performance-wise the new M5 can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds, and 0-124mph in only 13 seconds. The voluntarily limited top speed is 155mph. Let it loose and it easily goes past 180.

With BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and Efficient Dynamics technology, including engine Auto Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration, the M5′s fuel consumption has been reduced by more than 30 per cent to 28.5mpg, while CO₂ emissions tumble to 232g/km. The gearbox is still a bit complicated, with manual (S) and fully automated (D) shift options, with three programmes in each.

The new car benefits from Active M electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip differential, and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system. So fabulous handling and superb ride is guaranteed.

The DSC system is linked to the anti-lock brakes (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake Assistant, Brake Fade Compensation, Brake Drying function and Start-off Assistant. By pressing the DSC button the driver can override the basic settings and select M Dynamic Mode (MDM), which raises the intervention thresholds or turns them off completely.

2012 BMW M5 is once again the wolf in sheep’s clothing it is supposed to be. The subtle exterior and classy and elegant interior do cover well the inner fury of this magnificent car.The car in now available in the UK, priced at £73,04.

Optional equipment including a rear-view camera, High-Beam Assistant, Speed Limit information, Lane Change and Lane Departure warnings, Surround View and BMW Night Vision ensure the driver is aware of anything and everything happening within the vicinity of the car. A Mobile Application preparation allows iPhone owners to receive web radio stations and display Facebook and Twitter posts on the Control Display.

BMW UK has put together a promo film for the new 2012 M5 F10, and it’s fantastic. For the fans of the car’s biturbo V8, its amazing exhaust noise is heavily featured. But you know the best thing about is that the car is in black. We were getting a bit sick of seeing the new M5 in blue. It’s refreshing to see it in some other colors as well.

BMW has officially announced 4.4 seconds as the new M5′s 0 to 60 mph acceleration time. But American magazine Car&Driver has arrived at a different number.

Now, you would expect the number the independent testers achieved to be higher than what the huge, faithless car maker claims. But it isn’t! Staggeringly, the time is much quicker than the official performance figure BMW has announced.

C&D tested the M5 the other day and recorded a 0 to 60 time of 3.7 seconds. They also posted a quarter mile time of 12.0 seconds at 122mph.

We know BMW likes to underrate performance of its cars. But underrating 3.7 seconds is 4 seconds, not 4.4. That is a big difference. Why would BMW do such a thing? Is there a chance C&D equipments are rubbish?! They’ve also measured CLS63 AMG’s acceleration at 3.8 seconds, while it should be 4.4 seconds.

4.4 seconds 0-60 time is fantastic for a four-door saloon. 3.7 seconds is just plain awesome. This new M5 is a phenomenon.

About time! Finally Matthias Malmedie from GRIP show gets behind the wheel of the newest M5 and puts this most highly anticipated car of the year through its paces. You don’t have to know even a word of German to understand his verdict on the 560-hp super saloon. And even you didn’t, the M5′s exhaust noise tells the whole story.

We haven’t count, but this must be the sixth or seventh BMW M5 review we feature. You must have become an M5 expert by now!

Rumors about an all-wheel-drive version of the new BMW M5 F10 turn out to be wrong. But it will get an optional manual gearbox.

We couldn’t care less really about an AWD M5, because let’s be honest it’s pointless. Just because Audi’s hot saloons are four-whee-drive doesn’t mean the M5 should be too. The AWD system would make the car heavier and basically alter its swell driving characteristics. And what will you get in return? Better traction? Less fun?!

BMW M officials have also confirmed to Autoblog they have no plans for an M5 wagon. It doesn’t make sense really making a 550 hp estate car. People buy estates to do the school run or carry things around, and people who do those things don’t really care about speed and performance. The fact that BMW only sold only 1056 units of the previosu M5 wagon shows it is not worth the money and effort making the Wagon.

Reports about a manual M5 are all true though, and we’re mighty glad they are! Next year BMW will be offering a six-speed manual gearbox for the M5. But they do have their concerns about letting loose 560 hp while there’s no clever computerized transmission in the middle to harness it. It is all down to the driver to make the best out of the M5 manual.

The difference between this review of the new BMW M5 by Hungarian TotalCar and the ones by EVO and Autocar, is that it focuses more on the things that matter to the average drivers, or hooligans if you like! Stuff like exhausts noise, drag, drift, and tire smoke. Gentleman drivers more care about lap times, top speed and handling. As an added bonus they used an awesome cameraman with an even awesomer camera. The footage is just fantastic. Too bad the language is a bit irritating. No offense.
