Besides the new Panda, Fiat will also reveal a mildly facelifted version of the Punto a the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

Apart from the not so important new exterior colours and the seat upholsteries, 2012 Fiat Punto gets new powertrains as well. And yes, like every other car Fiat Group make these days, it gets the 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir turbo.

Good news is, this is a brilliant little engine that in combination with a 6-speed gearbox, is very fun to drive while offering low CO2 emissions of just 98 g/km. You want more economy, then you have to get the 85 HP 1.3 16V Multijet diesel.

Fitted with the IRS (Injection rate shaping) as well as Intelligent Alternator and Intelligent Flow, this unit emits just 90 g/km of CO2 emissions, while offering more torque (200 Nm compared to 140 Nm) than the TwinAir. But it’s not just as fun to drive.

The 2012 range comprises 3 trim levels (Pop, Easy and Lounge). The new style innovations of the Punto 2012 are completed with a new design of the 15″ alloy rims and new three metallic bodywork colours: Turquoise, Ruby Red and Graphite Grey. The TwinAir models also get more equipments and features such as grey and black “Sportex” fabric and a grey embroidered TwinAir logo on the front headrests. The advanced infotainment system (Blue&Me) can also be specified for the new Punto.

Along with the 500C Italia and the 695 Competizione, Abarth is also bringing a hot hatch, the Punto SuperSport to IAA.

To make the SuperSport visually appealing, it comes with the EsseEsse kit, 18″ alloy in black with red brake calipers inside, and a Grigio Campovolo two-tone livery enriched with a special matte black paintwork for the bonnet and roof.

Again, the Punto SuperSport is powered by the 1.4 Multiair engine that develops 180 HP (132 kW) at 5,750 rpm and with 270 Nm of maximum torque at 2,500 rpm. It does 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 216 km/h.

Also part of the pacakge are modified suspension, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes, front and rear Koni shock absorbers with FSD (Frequency Selective Dumping) valve and specially lowered springs, and a big exhaust!

Inside, this special Abarth Punto supersport features “Abarth Corsa by Sabelt” black leather seats, with red and yellow stitchings and gloss black backrest (homologated and lightened in keeping with the car’s racing spirit) and an Abarth Blue&MeTM MAP satellite navigation unit with a telemetric function developed in conjunction with Magneti Marelli. Enriching the interiors are the laser-treated aluminium kick plate with special “supersport” graphics, the stainless steel pedals with Abarth brand, and the leather steering wheel with double red and yellow stitching, just like the seats and the sporty Jaeger driving instruments.

Novitec has established itself as the main tuner for Italian cars, be it Ferrari, Maserati or a little Fiat hatchback. Here’s their take on the Fiat Punto Evo, and they offer visual upgrade as well as suspension and brakes tuning. Also no matter which engine of the range your car is powered by, petrol or diesel, Novitec has a power upgrade program for it.

The looks of the Punto Evo is significantly enhanced with a complete body kit consisting of headlamp moldings and the NOVITEC spoiler, X-one-look hood with power domes and integrated hood scoops, NOVITEC side sills, rear spoiler and the rear molding attachment, plus a racing-look diffuser with three fins and NOVITEC sport muffler.

As for the wheels you get NOVITEC N10 alloy wheels in diameters of 17 or 18 inches and in silver or black, with 215/35 R 18 tires. A complete set runs for 1,310 Euros. Complimenting the wheels and tires are the new height-adjustable stainless-steel coilover suspensions that can be adjusted between 35 to 75 millimeters.

Then there’s the engine tuning program. For the 1.4-liter 16V MultiAir turbocharged gasoline engine NOVITEC increases the power from standard 99 kW / 135 hp to 118 kW / 160 hp and the torque from from 206 to 246 Nm. The power increase is facilitated by the NOVITEC PowerJet 2 auxiliary control unit with innovative plug-and-power technology. It is available for just 419 Euros and cuts the sprint time from rest to 100 km/h to 7.9 seconds while increasing the top speed to 209 km/h.

Same treatment for the Abarth Punto Evo results in 184 hp / 135 kW. As for the diesels, NOVITEC POWERRAIL 5 package that costs cost 335 Euros will increase the output of the 1.6-liter 16V MultiJet to 144 hp / 106 kW and produces a peak torque of 356 Nm.

Novitec’s Punto Evo also gets a stainless-steel sport mufflers, available in 26 different versions, and with one, two or four exhaust tips which give the car a deeper sportier soundtrack. Pricing for these exhausts start form 200 Euros.

Two of the latest, and hottest, cars by Abarth are the 500C and the new Punto Evo which will go on sale in UK from 17 July. Featuring both visual and mechanical upgrades, these models are very appealing and desirable, and the best thing is they also offer good value for money! Abarth 500C starts from £17,500, which sounds like a lot for a fiat 500, but considering the kit you get, it makes sense. Abarth Punto Evo has a starting price of £16,500.

“Joining together two winning formulas – the convertible roof of the Fiat 500 and the style and performance of the Abarth 500 – will make the new Abarth 500C an irresistible proposition for many new customers,” says Ivan Gibson, head of Abarth in the UK.

Abarth 500C

Priced at £17,500 OTR, the Abarth 500C represents good value when compared with its main rivals. As well as the Abarth Competizione MTA gearbox with steering wheel paddle shift, and the electric hood with glass rear window and third brake light incorporated into the spoiler, the car receives, as standard, a host of other equipment.

This includes seven airbags, xenon headlights, TTC (torque transfer control), parking sensors, Blue&Me hands-free telecommunications system, leather steering wheel and 16-inch alloy wheels. A full range of options includes automatic climate control, leather sports interior, bi-colour paint, red brake callipers and coloured Abarth side stripes and mirrors.

Proof that the 500C is a true Abarth comes in the form of its 140bhp 1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet 140 engine, which provides the convertible with a top speed of 127mph and a 0-62mph time of 8.1 seconds. But the frugal unit returns 43mpg fuel economy on the combined cycle.

Abarth Punto Evo

The Abarth Punto Evo costs £16,500 OTR and, like the Abarth 500C, features an impressive standard equipment list. This includes six airbags, TTC, Eco Gear Shift Indicator (EGSI), performance sport switch, Start&Stop, 17-inch alloy wheels with 5-claw spokes and Blue&Me.

An ‘Interscope’ hi-fi system, automatic climate control, rain sensor, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) are among the long list of options.

The Abarth Punto Evo is powered by Fiat Powertrain Technologies’ new 165bhp 1.4 16v MultiAir engine which can accelerate the car from 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 132mph, and yet returns more than 47mpg fuel economy on the combined cycle.

Fiat’s in-house tuner Abarth is finally ready to launch their version of the 500C along with the new Abarth Punto Evo. Both cars, specially the 500C look sensational, even though older Abarth fans might find them a bit too normal! Fiat 500C is very popular among female buyers, but this Abarth edition comes with many macho features as well.

Powered by a small and efficient 1.4 liter turbocharged engine, the Abarth 500C has 140 hp. But if that doesn’t float your boat, don’t despair because more powerful versions will be launched later on. The car’s body kit and two-tone paint job have been seen before on different editions of the hard-top Abarth 500.

The Abarth Punto Evo gets a meaty 1.4 liter MultiAir engine which delivers 165 hp. Stylingwise, the car is distinguished by features like new mesh grilles, smoked lights, lower ride height, Abarth wheels, and Abarth graphics on each sides.

Both models will go on sale in Italy from mid-June.

Fiat Punto gets a new Evo edition in 2010 featuring a new design which is more curvy and cutesy than the old models and inherits a few styling cues from the 500 models. It also comes with a more refined, stronger structure so it’ll be better to drive and safer as well. Moreover, the interior is also revamped and Fiat is offering new Multijet and Multiair engines for it. You can clearly see the Evolution!

The range starts with a new 1,4 liter Multiair developing 77 hp, then there’s a more powerful version with 105 hp and a range-topping 135 hp. All these engines are fitted with Start/Stop system an comply with Euro 5 standards (Euro6 ready).

MultiAir is Fiat’s new electronic system for dynamic control of air intake, cylinder by cylinder, stroke by stroke. This electro-hydraulic valve actuation technology is based on the use of a high pressure oil chamber between the camshaft and the intake valve, managed by a solenoid valve connected to an ECU. This way, valve lift schedules become extremely flexible and vary precisely and immediately according to engine air requirements.

As for the Multijet diesel powertrains, you get an extremely efficient 1.3 liter with 95 hp which can manage nearly 75 hp. But if you want even more economy, you may opt for the 75 hp version of this engine. Like the petrol units, these engines also come standard with Start/Stop and are Euro5 compatible.

So this is the new facelifted Fiat Punto we featured spyshots of which some months ago! Now if you are American it might not make sense to you, but this little fella is actually a very important car in Europe. It comes with an Evo badge, which means it’s not a totally new model, but everything has been improved in it. Starting with the looks where the lovely Punto features restyled front and rear aprons.

On the outside, both the front and the rear have been thoroughly restyled, as shown by the attractive lines of the new bumpers and the incorporation of innovative and original headlights and taillights. The latest design has also “stretched” the car to a total length of 406 centimetres, so that its winning characteristics of driver and passenger comfort remain unchanged. The other external dimensions remain the same, with a width of 169 cm, a height of 149 cm and a wheelbase of 251 cm.

he Punto Evo is also one of the few cars in its class equipped with adaptive ‘cornering’ front fog lights that switch on automatically with dipped headlights according to the angle of steering. And don’t forget that the new Punto Evo also guarantees constant and reliable road holding thanks to electronic dynamic control systems for braking and steering.
The Punto Evo expresses its technical excellence first and foremost through a wide choice of Euro 5 engines, including a 1.3 second generation Multijet diesel and a 1.4 petrol engine with the revolutionary MultiAir technology developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and eventually to be incorporated in all Fiat Group engines. Fiat’s innovative and conventional powerplants are also joined by dual-fuel methane and petrol units to create the most complete and ecological range of engines in the segment. With reduced consumption and emissions in mind, the new Punto Evo also offers Start&Stop, the system that switches off and restarts the engine in stop-and-go traffic. Start&Stop is being introduced as standard on all Euro5 petrol and diesel engines. Another system making its first appearance on the Punto Evo is “Blue&Me–TomTom”, the new portable satellite navigation unit that lets you manage telephone, navigation and information functions on a practical colour touch-screen.

In the area of safety, the Punto Evo sets new standards thanks to 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag. The Punto Evo is one of very few cars in its segment with a driver knee airbag fitted as standard on all versions. Other innovative safety systems are also available, including Hill-Holder to help with hill starts, adaptive ‘cornering’ front fog lights that switch on automatically with dipped headlights according to the angle of steering, and Fiat’s tried and tested ABS, EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) systems.

The Fiat Punto Evo goes on sale in the second half of October with the precise objective of consolidating its role as one of Europe’s market leaders in the highly important compact segment.
