Most of you might not have a clue what the hell is Mosler! Well in brief, it’s an ugly American supercar which has been around for some years and also has been a serious contender in GT racing. As an engineering exercise it’s a brilliant car but it’s too hardcore to be considered as a real supercar. Anyway, now they have stripped out the MT900 and made something called the Land Shark!

Alright, we are not in a position to judge whether they are telling the truth or not! But what they claim the Land Shark is capable of, seem like a very very tall order! I mean what kind of modifications they have implemented on a 381 cubic inch engine to achieve the record braking 2500+ hp?! And by what sort of mechanical you can deliver this much power to the ground to be as fast as they claim they are: 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and top speed 375 mph! That’s 603km/h for crying out loud!

But who knows they might have arrived at a new kind of technology that all of the giant auto makers haven’t!!! Until they prove it, you can take a look at technical specs in full and try to realize if they have gone totally mad…

If the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black with 670 hp doesn’t phase you enough and you want more power and more luxury, then this FAB Design SL65 with a 100 extra horsepower and a bodykit that unlike most of FAB’s kits is handsome, is the car for you!

Since it’s a custom made vehicle there is no official info about it, only the engine specs are known for the time being, and that’s enough! Because that is the most important part of it, the rest of the car is a typical Fab Design job.

Modified front and rear bumpers with bigger air intakes,  a new diffuser with bigger exhaust mufflers, crazy side air vents, custom grille, Fab Design wheels and of course those magnificent slashes on the body which looks like it’s being hit by an axe!

The interior too, is tailored based on order, so while the red leather and carbon fiber trimming in this car really matches the white paintjob, other cars would be different.

As for the engine though, It’s a 6 liter (5.98) V12 Bi-turbo which FAB engineers somehow managed to find another100 horsepower in it! It is now developing 770 horsepower! This is madness! Even though it uses the Merc’s 5-speed auto transmission which is known for tolerating gigantic amount of torques, still, how it’s going to put down all that power! We guess that the handling will be business as usual, blisteringly fast in the straight  but then completely outta control in the corners! You know what, that’s fine for this car because, whoever buys it, is not going to attend track days with it. He only might use this power to out accelerate his mate in his Ferrari at the green light! and that’s about it!

This is the car number 001 of this limited edition series that has come to UAE, where else could it go afterall?!

Mercedes Benz has started a big media campaign for their upcoming super car, the SLS AMG Gullwing. They are actually making a story of it, from its birth, development, testings and… and you know what, it deserves this much attention!

After the ‘official’ spy photos which Mercedes themselves put out, now comes the videos! Showing the car during its test sessions in Sweden, Laredo and Pikes Peak. There is also a promo film.

This 580 horsepower retro style supercar is probably the most important launch we are expecting in 2010. You can see the SLS renderings HERE.

The name Hennessey Performance brings one thing to mind: massive horsepower! Beside their 1000hp packages for American muscles, they have tried their hands on a German car as well…

And the result is astonishing! They pick a stock R8 engine and put it on steroids! Now it develops 700 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. The modification is really heavy, beside the turbos, they install new set of exhaust and also upgrade all of the manifolds and injectors and pumps and… Below is a list of what they do:

Auto Bild has just published a new series of Mercedes SLS AMG renderings and because this is Auto Bild you can be sure that they are actually the closest thing to the production car! What a machine…

This might not seem pretty to everyone, but it’s a true classic design. Those gullwing doors hinged on the roof alone worth all the pay! Of course you will get much more than that. The AMG has played its part with a 6.2 liter V8 with output of 571 hp and 650 nm of torque, that combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is simply enough for super performance, 0-100 in 3.8 seconds and top speed of 315 km/h.

This being a Mercedes, there is no compromise on comfort, luxury and of course safety. It has eight airbags and recently passed all of the crash test successfully. It is also light weight, every horsepower in the SLS has to carry only 2.8 kilograms, so in proportion to its performance you have to say it is efficient as well.

The power obsession in Brabus tuning firm is getting scary! At this year’s Geneva Autosalon they are showing off their skills on Mercedes SUVs. The best of lot is probably the 700 hp G-Class, but this ML63 with 650 horsepower surely can satisfy your thirst for power as well.

The engine in this car started life as a normally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 with 510 hp. Those who are familiar with this engine know that it’s already far too much even for a hardcore petrolhead driver, but this is horsepower madness with no holds bar! so Brabus bolted a couple of turbos to it and added a huge intercooler. They’ve also fitted bigger manifolds for good measure!The result is an added 140hp than the standard which really give the car wings.

The 7-speed gearbox also has been modified along with the suspension which is now 30mm lower. You can’t give a car extra power without upgrading the brakes, so Brabus assures its stopping power by a new package with bigger discs and also huge 23″ wheels with high performance tires.

The ML63 Biturbo sprints to 100 from stand still in just 4.2 seconds which is astonishing for this hefty car and it keeps going to reach 315 kph! Designwise, for the car to live up with its performance Brabus offers its widestar package which not only looks good it helps with the aerodynamics as well. As for the interior the usual leather and alcantara treatment is accessible along with Brabus exclusive illuminated door sills which are really cool!

The power in this car might be scary but the scariest part of it is certainly the price tag! Which starts at 190,602 Euros. Because you pay the price of a Ferrari but will end up with a M-Class!

This a story about a man called Rod Saboury who spent 7 odd years to make this, a 2400 horsepower Stingray which goes from 0 to 60 in one second! and does quarter mile in 6.95 seconds at 210.54 mph! It is worth all the efforts. Amazingly they say it is street legal. It even has power windows and cup holders!!

The power actually comes form a small-block Chevy V8 built by Moran Engines which has been turbocharged to reach the unbelievable 2400 hp. Of course that is achieved not by standard fuel, but it can do 10 miles to the gallon when it runs on pump gas. The engine has so much torque that it lifts the front of the car from the ground when it launches in a dragstrip and two big parachutes need to be deployed in order to stop it.

We got used to car makers lying about their cars power figures but they normally announce numbers  greater than the real power output. Not Chrysler! The company claimed horsepower for 2009 Dodge Viper ACR is 600 hp but guys at dragtimes put the car on dyno and arrived at a different number, 642 hp!! For no logical reason imaginable they advertise Viper ACR is less powerful than it really is! So no wonder they are going bankrupted!via : Jalopnik

What the hell these German tuners want from the Mercedes SLR?! Every now and then one of them come up with a package for the car and they all suck, terribly! We’ve just been mocking the Renntech SLR and then this popped up! This one apparently, called ASMA Perfectus, is a one of a kind car ordered by a royalty family from Abu Dhabi to ASMA company which specializes in turning Mercedes cars into sharks and other sea creatures! With this car though, they literally made the ugliest bodykit ever ! ASMA kindly increased the power to 700 hp and 885 Nm torque so the owner can go so fast that nobody sees him behind the wheel of this hideous looking ride!! It actually goes up to 348 kph. It’s done by using a modified compressor unit with metal catalysts and revised engine electronics along with ASMA Racing mufflers. The car costs one million euros! The guy who bought the Perfectus is probably bored with his Bugatti Veyron!

After Mansory and Hamann finished torturing the SLR with their hideous bodykits, here comes the RENNTECH! To celebrate company’s 20th anniversary, they have planned to make 20 examples of what you see in the picture above, called RENNTECH 777. The body is totally modified and while it is not as terrible as what Hamann did to the car, it still deserve the word ‘cock’ ! Of course these are only renderings and we have to see the live pictures to really judge it but it seems that no bodykit fits the SLR in the first place, it looks better naturally. Apart from the looks, RENNTECH also fiddled with the engine ans as you guess it now has 777 horsepower which can take the car to 210+ mph top speed! Then again, as a showcase of what RENNTECH is capable of, this is great. But as car for real it is just not right. Renovatio and Volcano proved this fact!

RENNTECH 777 20th Anniversary, or: Horsepower Wars really Really REALLY Not Over

Lake Park, FL – Earlier this week, AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg
announced that â the horsepower war is over.” If this
sounds familiar, it’s because AMG issued a similar press
release LAST JANUARY.

“Last year, it was a coincidence that we were releasing a
new, 695 hp performance package for the 65 series AMG
cars at around the same time. We sent out a press
release that said ‘HP War Not Over’,” recalls Hartmut
Feyhl, president of RENNTECH and four-star General of
the horsepower wars. “This year it is the same timing
again, and we have something much more extreme to
announce for our 20th Anniversary.”

Feyhl founded RENNTECH in 1989, and the company
has since established itself as one of the world’s premier
tuning firms and the foremost authority on Mercedes-Benz
performance tuning. 2009 marks the company’s 20th year
in business, and the company intends to celebrate by
releasing a small number of extreme, limited edition
performance vehicles, beginning with the 777 hp,
RENNTECH 777 shown here.

“This 777 concept is really an all-new car that makes use
of the advanced carbon fiber chassis of the SLR McLaren.
It can be described as a street-legal track car, or
something closer to what the enthusiasts were hoping for
from the SLR, originally – which is more a successor to the
McLaren F1.”

RENNTECH heavily revised the SLR McLaren bodywork
and aero package using some of the same technology the
company used to develop the the GLK Hybrid Rally Racer
for Mercedes-Benz, including advanced CFD software to
develop the aerodynamics for improved downforce. Even
with the big wing, splitters, and skirts, a top speed in
excess of 210 mph is well within reach for the 777.

The 777 is much more than lightweight bodywork,
however. The 5.5 L supercharged “Kompressor” v8
engine is heavily revised, with internal and external
performance upgrades and a significantly upgraded
cooling system.

Getting that power to the ground is the job of a fully
redesigned suspension and driveline, with a heavily
reinforced transmission sending power to RENNTECH’s
revolutionary new limited-slip differential. Built for
RENNTECH by Japanese supplier OS Giken, the
recently-released differential allows for 100% locking
between the drive wheels for unsurpassed mid-corner
traction. Aggressive Nitto NT-05 ultra-high performance
tires wrapped around extremely lightweight, 1 pc. center-
locking wheels round out the street -legal handling
package.

“The 777 will be a very special car,” explains Hartmut.
“The first example is being built now, and will be ready
this Spring. We intend to build a few different extreme
vehicles like this for our 20th anniversary, with each one
being strictly limited to 20 units. They are all very exciting
projects, and we will be announcing them throughout the
year, as they approach completion.”

When the word Brabus comes before a Mercedes you know that you are dealing with something serious! Just take a look at these numbers : 550 horsepower and  0-100 in 4.9 seconds, and that is for a big SUV jacked up on massive 23inches rims with 315/25R23 tyres! Of course that is the program for the ML63! They also modified the Airmatic suspension and dropped the car for 30 millimeters, so in combination with the Widestar bodykit which has buffed up wheel arches, new bumpers with LED lights, new front and rear apron, and new diffuser and exhaust pipes at the back, it gives a killer look to the car. Brabus has similar programs for other M-Class variants: ML 320 CDI with 272hp, ML 420 CDI with 350hp, ML 350 with 287hp, and ML 500 which is taken up to 6.1 liter gets 426hp.

Inside there is carbon fiber trim along with Brabus leather package and numerous Brabus logo, illuminated  steps with Brabus name and a speedo up ro 320kph, these are some of the upgrades for interior.

The WIDESTAR package is also available for all current M-Class models and combines dynamic looks with maximum functionality. Elegantly shaped fender flares on front and rear axle add five centimeters (two inches) to the width of the SUV.

The wider stance not only benefits the appearance of the M-Class, it also improves handling. Three-piece BRABUS Monoblock E wheels are specially designed for the WIDESTAR model. They come in size 11Jx23 and feature forged wells, creating an optimal symbiosis of light-weight design and maximum mechanical strength. The new light-alloy wheels are fitted with high-performance tires in size 315/25 R 23 front and back.

The BRABUS control module for the standard AIRMATIC air suspension lowers the ride height by some 30 millimeters (1.2 inches) which also benefits sporty on-road handling.

The BRABUS WIDESTAR body conversion further includes door trim components and rocker panels that create a perfect transition between front and rear fender flares. New aprons replace their production counterparts in the front and rear. The front spoiler bumper with its three strikingly styled air inlets, four auxiliary headlights and daytime running lights lends the M-Class more passing clout and minimizes lift on the front axle. The rear apron features an integrated diffuser and cutouts for the chrome-plated tailpipes of the BRABUS stainless-steel quad sport exhaust system. In combination with the rear spoiler it creates an optimal aerodynamic balance.

BRABUS offers the world’s most extensive engine tuning program for Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The BRABUS engine specialists have developed BRABUS ECO PowerXtra power kits for the CDI turbodiesel models that meet the same stringent emission limits as the unmodified production cars.

The ML 280 CDI equipped with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D5 (III) tuning produces an extra 52 hp (51 bhp) / 38 kW. For the ML 320 CDI BRABUS has designed the D6 (III) power kit. It bumps maximum power output to 272 hp (268 bhp) / 200 kW and produces an enormous peak torque of 590 Nm (435 lb-ft) at just 1,600 rpm. In the top-of-the-line diesel model ML 420 CDI the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D8 (III) power kit unleashes the true power inherent in the V8 common-rail turbodiesel engine without jeopardizing reliability and longevity. Rated power output jumps from 306 hp (302 bhp) / 225 kW to 350 hp (345 bhp) / 257 kW at just 3,800 rpm. At the same time peak torque grows from 700 Nm to 800 Nm (516 to 590 lb-ft). Thus powered, the tuned ML 420 CDI sprints from von 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.0 seconds, half a second less than the production car. Top speed increases from 235 to 245 km/h (147 to 153 mph).

For the gasoline-powered models the BRABUS engine tuning program starts with the B7 power kit which increases power output of the ML 350 to 287 hp (283 bhp) / 211 kW. The BRABUS 6.1 displacement engine with 462 hp (456 bhp) / 340 kW is available for the ML 500 with four-valve engine. The culmination of the engine program for the M-Class is the B63 S power kit for the ML 63. Its 550 hp (542 bhp) / 404.8 kW accelerate the tuned top-of-the-line M-Class model from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds on its way to a new top speed of 275 km/h (172 mph).

All BRABUS engines are lubricated exclusively with ARAL high-performance motor oil. The specially calibrated stainless-steel BRABUS sport exhaust with four chrome-plated tailpipes is available for all M-Class engines.

To further optimize active safety the BRABUS WIDESTAR is optionally equipped with a high-performance brake system. 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers grip front discs measuring 360 x 28 mm (14.2 x 1.1 inches). The rear axle features six-piston fixed calipers. Together these components provide stopping power normally reserved for purebred sports cars.

Exclusive interior options are another BRABUS specialty for the Mercedes M-Class: They include stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo, an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel, and leather-covered door elements for upgrading the factory interior. An exclusive BRABUS fully leather interior made from a perfectly finished combination of the finest Mastik and Alcantara leathers is also available.

Sporty BRABUS ‘Checkered Flag’ carbon-fiber components for the interior are another BRABUS innovation. They have a carbon-fiber surface structure made to look like a checkered flag used in motorsports.

The front seats are fitted with custom rear consoles that encompass the headrests. They each house a seven-inch LCD screen with 16:9 aspect ratio and integrated DVD player. These consoles are also available in a version that features a power-folding precious-wood table.

Two of the best Detroit debuts are two of the best performance saloons, Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS and Jaguar XFR. Two great looking rides with big V8s! True petrolhead’s cars! The Masser comes with some visual tweaks like LED lamps and a Granturismo grille to make it look more sporty and uses a 4.7-liter V8 engine with 439hp! This is certainly one of the coolest cars money can buy. On the other corner there is Jag XFR which is less than a week old but despite that has accomplished quit a lot! Recently it hit 225mph at Bonneville and became the fastest Jaguar in history. It has a supercharged V8 with 510 horsepower. General Motors recently dropped a preview of new generation 2009 Buick LaCrosse before the official debut at Detroit Motor Show. With months to go before hitting the showrooms in Spring 2009, Lotus Evora has already achivied a great respect as it got the attention of high ranked celebrities, and now to make things more interesting Lotus announced that a hot version will come in late 2010 with a supercharger on its 3.5-liter V6 engine from Toyota to pump up the power from 276 to 350 Horsepower! That would be enough for 0-60 sprint of less than 5 seconds and top speed just over 280kmh (175mph). The car is simple and straight forward like the Elise, but features a better, contemporary design and comes with much more toys than its old brother. More pictures after the jump…

After months of teasing Nissan finally revealed Godzilla the second, GT-R SpecV to the Japanese market. As we had said before, they’ve just added some carbon fiber here and there, and gave it two new seats and asking more than 70 grand more than the standard car! It will be on sale for $161,300 comparing to $92,500 of the normal one. Performance is almost the same as they didn’t touch the engine, just added a boost system which increase the turbo pressure in mid- range rpm, well done Nissan!

Even the looks are not noticeably different. There are two new holes in front bumper along with new spoiler, all carbon fiber, grille is also carbon fiber, and of course rear wing made of … carbon fiber, rear seats are gone but it’s got new Recaro seats made of … carbon fiber! Even the SpecV batch is carbon fiber! And it has new high performance wheels which are not carbon fiber actually but are horribly ugly! Braking package and suspension are also upgraded for no reason imaginable, because there is no change in performance, so… may be original GT-R brakes are not good enough, just like its launch control… and gearbox!

GT-R is a fantastic car, a brilliant engineering job, but in many ways I still prefer the old Skyline. With the new one Nissan just destroyed what GT-R stands for, it was tuners baby. It was not as sophisticated as the new one, but was such a bad ass that with some regular modification could easily go up to a thousand horsepower. With the new GT-R though, it is just about science and math! and no matter how good that works, it is not cool at all.

The GT-R SpecV’s new exterior features include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body color. Inside, the SpecV’s unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fiber bucket seats, while carbon fiber insets embellish the rear center storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.

Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine’s twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. BMW announced plans to put the extreme version of 1-series called 135i supersports also known as Tii into production. The car has all the features to revive the glorious age of 2oo2 models which when it came almost 40 years ago became the undisputed king of compact sports cars and started a class of its own. Like that car, Tii has a lot of stamina in form of a turbocharged inline-six engine developing 326-horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. That is a lot of power in a car with size of a shoe! Combine that with BMW’s classic rear wheel drive handling, and the result is tremendous driving joy. Of course if you can live with its ugly look!

The production version however will reportedly get a smaller engine, 4 cylinder maybe, to keep the price low, which is a shame really. Because the only reason to tolerate this hideous looking car is power and handling, omit them and you left with… S#%@!

It’s good to hear that horsepower obsession is still live and alive in spite of economy downturn and global warming and all that nonsense like that. This Challenger SRT8 started life as a normal one which was very happy of its 425 horses, but guys at RDP Performance from Ohio has turned it into a twin-supercharged 1000 hp monster. This massive power might be down to the Nitrus, but nevertheless, brilliant job. The car is apparently preparing for PRI Show in Florida and wants to be the first car to do the quarter mile under 10 seconds. Follow the jump to see a video of the car…

After revealing Fisker Karma and before even putting that car into production, Henrik Fisker is readying a convertible version of it called the Sunset to debut at Detroit Motorshow. And like Karma first teaser, they released a weird shot of the car totally pointless. Given it’s a drop-top Karma, it should be powered by the same hybrid system which is a combination of a plug-in electric motor and a GM breed 2.0 liter turbo, apparently develops around 480 horsepower. Nothing more is known for the time being, But this being Fisker you can expect more info in a week or so, as we approach NIAIS Autoshow in Detroit

Amongst the Porsche tuners, 9ff is simply the greatest, not because they do a quality job or they are very good with customer care, but because they are the craziest! They are just a bunch of lunatics working there and they go mental with every single project. As their latest creation, they bumped up a pitiful 911 to a DraXster with 1300 horsepower and 1190 Nm torque weighing at 1168 Kilogram. The results is … 0-260 kph in 9.5 seconds :O I have no idea what they’ve done to the engine and other parts to tolerate such figures, but this being 9ff, you can believe them 100 percent. Apparently the magic caused by a pair of turbos, 9ff turbos of course!, bolted to their 4.0liter engine. And as its name suggests, its goal is to rip off almost everything down at the drag strip!

Some months ago spies scooped a test mule of a strange SLR called Speedster, because of body shape, and now as it turns out this is a super special edition SLR that Mercedes will produce only 75 of it as a tribute to their great man, Sir Stirling Moss. It will also be the last of SLR breed.

The car features a true classic super sport form and resembles the original 722 SLR. It doesn’t look like a SLR at all, it’s all like a crazy caricature of the actual car. The magnificent swing wing doors, long bonnet, short tail and no windscreen and no roof all promise a driving thrill like nothing else, but you are going to need Stirling Moss driving skills to handle it as it comes with a 5.5 liter supercharged V8, pretty much the same in other SLRs but tweaked to develop 650 horsepower which is good for 0-100 run of 3.5 seconds and max speed of around 350 kph. Performance numbers are much better than normal SLR since the body shell is considerably lighter.

Unfortunately 75 units will be ever made at price of 750,000 Euro and it is reserved for most loyal SLR customers, so it is more than an unreachable dream for most of us, but hands up for Mercedes as they made a history maker and better than that, it has the credit of Stiling Moss name with it. It will be premiered at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009 and no wonder that it’ll be the most important car and the star if the show.

There is neither a roof nor a windscreen to separate the driver and passenger from the outside world; they enjoy unadulterated high-speed excitement with all the attributes of a speedster. The new Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is also characterized by the most sophisticated technology and a breathtaking design which reinterprets the SLR legend. With 478 kW/650 hp the SLR Stirling Moss accelerates its V8 supercharged engine from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) – no other series-production car is at the same time so open and so fast. This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a legitimate bearer of the name of the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars from victory to victory during the 1950s. Three letters are all it takes to make car fans’ hearts beat faster: SLR. In the 1950s the Mercedes-Benz SLR 300 celebrated victory after victory. It won the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio as well as the Tourist Trophy. It was driven by the stars of the time: Juan Manual Fangio and Karl Kling – and, first and foremost, by the British racing driver Stirling Moss. At 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds he still holds the Mille Miglia record. This is why the modern-day version of the legendary SLR carries the additional words “Stirling Moss” in its name. The new Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss unites the character of the current SLR models with the fascination of the SLR of 1955. The core values of both the historical and the present-day SLR models include an exciting new design, innovative technology, high-class materials displaying perfect craftsmanship, and, above all: a unique driving experience for all the senses.

Whilst the 300 SLR earned its spurs on racing circuits the world over, the new member of the SLR family is not designed for the racetrack. Highly puristic concept without a roof or a windscreen

Remaining totally true to the specifications of the 300 SLR, the new Silver Arrow’s equipment is extremely sophisticated and yet at the same time decidedly spartan, doing without both a roof and side windows. There are just two wind deflectors a couple of centimeters in height to protect the driver and passenger from the airflow. Two air scoops integrated into the bodywork serve as roll-over bars. With this extreme concept the new SLR Stirling Moss is visually very different from all the other vehicles which belong to the elite sports car class.

Just like the legendary racing vehicles of yesteryear, the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss dazzles with its superlative performance. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds and with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) this puristic high-performance sports car denotes completely new dimensions in open-top driving. And not just because of the impressive performance figures; every time drivers take to the wheel of the SLR Stirling Moss their senses are addressed with a previously unheard of intensity, conveying a driving experience in its purest and most sensual form. This automotive thoroughbred thus facilitates the kind of open-air feeling that is utterly unique for a road-going vehicle.

Exciting design reminiscent of the SLR racing cars

The entire bodywork of the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is made of fine lightweight carbon fiber and represents a stand-alone design concept. Whilst the Mercedes-Benz designers were working on the body of the new SLR Stirling Moss, they were fully aware at every single moment that they were creating a vehicle with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). At the same time this supreme athlete is highly reminiscent of the SLR racing cars from the 1950s, whose design idiom still never fails to impress to this day.

The Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss sports an exciting, pronounced arrow-shaped form and is characterized by an elongated bonnet and a compact, muscular rear. As there is no windscreen, the exterior and interior flow smoothly into one. The bonnet also stretches from its striking tip right down into the interior, giving the vehicle body a distinctly sleek air. Even when standing still, the sports car radiates a dynamism that the observer immediately falls under its spell.

Further eye-catching features include two air scoops behind the driver and passenger. They carry additional roll-over bars, also uniting the traditional and the modern. The wings are powerfully contoured. Black-painted ventilation “gills” sitting facet-like on the sides and on the bonnet also cite the legend. A thrilling interplay of light and shadow ensues through the expressive lines, underlining the dynamic overall impression.

Exactly as they were on the shining historical example, the side skirts on the new SLR Stirling Moss are also very high. This prompted the designers’ decision in favor of folding swing-wing doors which open forwards.

The vehicle can be closed by two tonneau covers which are carried in the boot. When both tonneau covers and the doors are closed the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss resembles a sculpture.

In keeping with the puristic exterior of the vehicle, the interior is also reduced to the bare essentials. Surfaces in the instrument panel and doors make for an exciting atmosphere and epitomizes perfectionism. A mixture of high-class authentic materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum and fine-quality leather sets the style here. An aluminum plate carries the engraved signature of Stirling Moss and covers the area around the shift lever.

Innovative technology and polished aerodynamic concept

Developers working on the Stirling Moss were able to fall back on a wealth of experience gathered when producing the SLR Coupe and Roadster, in particular where the technical base was concerned, with its extravagant carbon-fiber design, high-performance suspension and throaty V8 engine. The common denominator uniting the Stirling Moss with the other members of the SLR family is the aerodynamic concept with a closed underbody and a diffuser in the rear bumper for maximum possible downforce at the rear axle – with one difference: the diffuser here is considerably larger than that on the coupe and roadster.

Thanks to the high-precision work carried out in the wind tunnel, the SLR Stirling Moss always generates sufficient downforce for extremely safe handling. But the driver can also manually operate the AIRBRAKE in order to increase the contact pressure further, during particularly sporty driving, for example. The AIRBRAKE is also raised during powerful braking at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph), so as to stabilize the vehicle even more in such situations, thus facilitating maximum possible deceleration.

Limited to 75 units – the SLR models’ crowning glory

The new Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is the kind of high-caliber speedster coveted by the sporting gentry and enthusiasts alike. At the same time it is a collector’s item which marks the pinnacle of an era and, for the foreseeable future, at least, the final curtain for the SLR. In May 2009 production of the SLR models will cease; only a total of 75 units of the Stirling Moss will be manufactured between June and December 2009, bearing chassis numbers from 1 to 75. Not only does this exclusive vehicle represent the conclusion of the current SLR family; it also serves as a very special thank you to the most loyal of SLR customers, for they are the only ones able to acquire a Stirling Moss.
