Evo magazine’s Roger Green went to Italy to drive the latest and most extreme version of the Lamborghini Gallardo, called the STS. That’s Super Trofeo Stradale, and hints at the car’s motorsport connections. It is actually a road-going version of the Super Trofeo race car. Roger, apparently, didn’t have professional cameramen with him on this trip from Lamborghini factory to Monza race track, so he filmed the entire clip on a couple of GoPro cams and iPhones, which is kinda cool.

The same guys who brought to you the lovely Gisele in Cadillac CTS-V, have now strapped another chesty lady in an Underground Racing twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardo with a colossal 1250 hp output. Now, Jenni here wouldn’t enjoy the ride so much if someone had told her that intense lateral G’s may cause silicone gel implants to explode. Actually, it doesn’t. We’re just playing. She’s a lovely girl and we wish we had one just like her in our cars at all times!

Lamborghini reveals how much you have to pay for the rear-drive Gallardo LP550-2, and that’s $209,000, plus $ 2,995 for destination charge and gas guzzler tax.

That’s about 20 grand less than the standard four-wheel-drive 560 Spyder. But don’t think you are getting less.

You see, the 550-2 is a drop-top version of the Balboni, unanimously considered as the best version of the Gallardo. If only it had a stripe on it.

The LP550-2, as the name indicates, has 550 hp channeled to the rear wheels via either an e-gear or a proper manual gearbox. It has a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds and top speed of 319 km/h.

With the omission of the front differential the car has become lighter, but it does lose some of its grip as well. That should make it more fun to drive. A bit less poised and precise, but more fun.

Robert Himler, the twin-turbo Gallardo man, released a new video of his car having a bit of fun with a mate’s Aventador. While a normal, standard Lamborghini Gallardo doesn’t stand a chance against the 700-hp Aventador, the big monster loses to Himler’s car, partly because the Aventa is brand-new and the owner didn’t want to push it, and partly because, well, that green beast is a UR-tuned twin-turbo Galla with 975 hp. It’s a cool video. Not sure if their night run was completely legal, but hey, it’s fun to break the rules every once in a while!

Reiter, as you may know, is an expert in turning Lambo Gallardos into racing machines. This is their 2012 GT3 car dubbed the LP600+.

Their focus with the new car is endurance racing, long-distance 24-hour endurance racing to be more precise. Trophy and GT cups are all fun, but Reiter now wants to take things to the next level by entering endurance series. That’s what customers want too.

The 2012 car looks as good as ever, and features a revised and bigger air splitter and new double dive plates at front.

Technical changes have been more thorough, as the car gets a new Holinger gearbox specifically calibrated for this car, AP Racing brakes with six-piston calipers and new coolant system for more durability, and a revised racing suspension setup promising even more grip than before.

Those fancy racing with this 600 PS V10-powered Lambo should get in touch with Reiter Engineering with a check for around 300,000 EUR.

SuperTrodeo Stradale is the last of the Gallardo breed, unless Lamborghini decides to add yet another model to the Gallardo’s large family before letting it go. It is a limited edition version based on the racing version of the car with massive wings and spoilers, and a 570-hp V10 engine. Lamborghini Gallardo has been with us for over a decade now but we are not tired of it yet. They just announced a new version of it at Los Angeles Motor Show.

It’s the long rumored Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder, a rear-drive sort of Balboni version of the Spyder. Lamborghini people say it’s the swan song for the Gallardo, but even they don’t believe that. Who cares anyway. It’s brilliant.

The car is powered by a detuned version of Gallardo’s V10 with 550 hp and an e-gear transmission. Don’t worry, you can’t have it with a proper manual as well.

With the conversion from 4 to 2-wheel-drive the Gallardo loses some of its grip, but then make up for it with a new ESP program that controls the car’s behavior in normal mode, and let it become a lairy beast in CORSA mode. The LP550-2 will be more fun to drive than normal models as a result.

Because of the rear-drive setup the car is also lighter than the standard Gallardo, so despite the lower power it’s still pretty fast with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds and top speed of 319 km/h.

Visually the car is the same as the normal Spyder and don’t get any special treatment. We think it could do with a nice stripe, but then people would mistake it for the Performante!

The last hurrah for Lamborghini Gallardo will be a lightened rear-wheel drive 550 version.

Throughout the years there have been many versions of the Gallardo, all of them great because it was a great car itself. We had the Coupe, Spyder, Superleggera, LP560-4, LP560-4 Spyder, LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, LP570-4 Superleggera, and more recently the LP570-4 Performante and Trofeo Strafale.

Now it seems the Italian car maker wants to give the car a proper sendoff with a back to basics rear-drive version of the Spyder. The Balboni Gallardo is the other RWD variant of the car, but that was a limited edition.

This new Spyder though won’t get any special visual features, like wings and stripes and stuff. It will be about 30 kg lighter than the normal car and will be powered by Balboni’s 550 hp engine.

The Gallardo Spyder RWD probably won’t be as poised and precise as the 4WD version, but exactly because of that it’ll be more fascinating, more fun to drive.

The Gallardo will be replaced a few years with an all-new model called the Cabrera.

For obvious reasons winter sports hero Jon Olsson likes to add Ski boxes to his Lamborghinis. He did that once to an LP670 SV, and thanks to DMC he has one for his Lambo Gallardo as well.

Jon has actually sold his SV to order a new Aventador. That left him with no Lamborghini to carry his Ski stuff around and of course, he’s not using any other vehicle! So the prestigious German tuner came to help again and designed this Gallardo Ski Transporter which is unique in more ways than one.

DMC hooked up Jon’s Gallardo with their GT3 carbon fiber body kit including a new front spoiler, brand new rear-deck lid, new lights with LED elements and a new bumper with integrated diffuser at the back.

Then they added the box, and to make the whole thing a bit more special, they wrapped it in camouflage design.

C’était un Rendezvous (It was a date) is the name of a French short-film from 1987, in which the director mounted a camera on the bumper of a Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 and went for a drive through Paris. Then he dubbed some Ferrari 275 GTB sound over it to make it sound cooler. And it was indeed very cool. Now Lamborghini has used the same concept to make a promotion film for the new Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale.

It’s not very clear in the picture above, but as you see in the video after the jump a Swede successfully jumps over a Lamborghini Gallardo traveling at 80 km/h. It does not seem to be fake, as the jumper has become known as Al the jumper for his crazy stunts. Good job this Lambo is wide and low then!

This mom-in-fast-cars videos are growing in number. Apparently they are the new internet craze. Remember that racing driver who took his mom around Laguna Seca in a Corvette? Well, now another dude who’s got a twin-turbo Underground Racing Lamborghini Gallardo goes for a drive with his mom riding shotgun. And yes, he put a camera in the car so he can post the video of his mom screaming ad let people laugh at her. The only question is, why?! It’s bit of a giggle, yea, but… why?

A few days ago Lamborghini released a teaser for a new sportscar they will be unveiling at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Turns out it is an ultimate version of the Gallardo.

By ‘Ultimate’ here we mean the road going version of the Super Trofeo Gallardo, a racing car for the company’s one-make racing series. This car will be an even harder, tauter version of the Superleggera and features an almost completely stripped-out interior.

It will be powered by the same 562-bhp V10 engine but the key to its performance is excessive lightness. The Gallardo ST will be 40 kg lighter than the SL. The car will also get a new aerodynamic kit that makes it look like the Trofeo as well. So to all intents and purposes, it is a full-on racing car.

They will only make 30 examples of this car, each with an estimated price £200,000, which sounds a bit too much for a track toy which is practically useless on the road! But it will be the last hurrah for the Gallardo and therefore very special.

The Gallardo will be replaced by the Cabrera in 2013.

Remember Prior Design’s take on turning a Lamborghini Gallardo into a Reventon/Aventador? Well, now Cosa Design has had a go.

They’ve taken an old Gallardo and gave it a body kit that looks like the Reventon at front, and like the Aventador at the back. They’ve done a good job designing the kit, especially at the back, but we still think it’s very uncool to make your car look like a bigger, more expensive model. It’s like shouting around you can’t afford the better one!

Anyhow, Cosa also gives the car a set of 20-inch wheels, sport exhausts with a central tailpipe like that of the Aventador, height adjustable coilover suspension, and a power upgrade up to 540 PS and 550 Nm.

OK, things don’t get much cooler than this! A twin-turbo 1250 hp Lamborghini Gallardo by Underground Racing, awesome sound of that V10, constant stream of flames from exhausts, and of course slow motion, because everything looks cooler in slow motion. Automobili Lamborghini confirmed manual transmission has no place in the company’s future.

And it’s not because customers show no interest in cars with stick. Lamborghini is ditching manual because they don’t want you ruining performance of their cars with bad gear changes! They say the only way to get the best performance out of the engine and sophisticated drivetrain is by using a computer-controlled system.

This is what Maurizio Reggiani, head of Lamborghini R&D, has told Motor trend: “A manual transmission is a break in the electronic chain of command that harmonises absolutely everything that happens between engine combustion chamber and tyre contact patch. The only way Lamborghini can guarantee soothing smoothness in city driving or back-thumpingly explosive acceleration on a winding road is for every system in the car to be interconnected. You can’t rely on a driver to always shift gears without glitches.”

The current Gallardo is the last Lamborghini to be offered with manual transmission. Its replacement, allegedly called the Cabrera, will only be available with an automated manual operated via paddle shifters, just like the Aventador.

More and more sportscar makers are moving in this direction. We can’t remember when was the last time we got an AMG Mercedes with manual ‘box, all new Ferraris have paddle shifters, even Pagani is not using a manual anymore.

But don’t despair if you like old school high performance machines, because BMW is going to offer a version of the new M5 with a proper manual gearbox.

German tuner has come up with a kit for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 which gives it the looks of the Reventon.

Cool? Yea, if you are six. We’re not sure it’s good to style your car like a more expensive model. The car looks nice and they’ve done a very good job as far as body kits go. But it’s the idea of it that’s not very nice.

There is no add-on parts, and every new component is actually new. The front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumpers, they are specially made for this car. You know they were determined to make it look like the Reventon when you look at the side skirts. That hole at the end of it resembles the side air intakes in the real car!

All parts are TUV-certified.

This is the coolest thing about Lamborghini, they just put a stripe on their cars and hike the price! And people buy them just to get that stripe. Check out the new stripped special edition of the Gallardo called Tricolore.

Tricolore refers to the Italian flag on the car which hints at the purpose of this special version. It celebrates the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. The car will be officially presented at the Stazione Futuro exhibition on March 16 in Turin.

Not much details available on the car’s specs and if it features more power than normal models or not, but who cares! What you want is that stripe and the great news is that it also runs inside the car on the driver’s seat. Apparently it only comes in white garnished with exposed carbon fiber parts. It also might be limited to 150 units to mark the anniversary.

We think it’s lame when tuners give names to their modified cars, but that doesn’t mean we don’t respect their work. Take this Lamborghini Gallardo by Amari Design, a new British tuner. They call it Invidia so you think of graphic cards when you hear its name, but the car itself is actually very fine!

Even though they picked an old gen Gallardo as their first project, they’ve actually worked on it and designed new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, wide arches, and a new wing. Not to mention the entire kit is made of carbon fiber because it’s fashionable and also because it’s currently the best material available. The car also gets a new pair of endpipes which are a nice touch.

For the interior they’ve followed the same routine everybody else does and wrapped it up in Alcantara and carbon fiber trims. They don’t have much choice here really, after all you can’t use wooden trims inside a Lamborghini! But they can pant the carbon bits in every color you desire.

The most fascinating part of Amari package though should be the engine. They’ve deeply modified the standard 500 hp V10 engine and managed to arrive at a colossal 750 hp. This is still a work in progress and if you’d like to have it you’re going to have to wait till Spring.
