It’s the turn of Autocar‘s Steve Sutcliffe’s to get behind the wheel of the new Porsche 991 and give us his verdict of the latest arse-engined German sports car. He takes the car to his favorite driving road in Beachy Head and put it through its paces to see how the widened front track, revised aerodynamic and upgraded engine have affected the feel of the car.

Porsche doesn’t seem to be able to stop making promo films for the new Porsche 911 (991), and we’re mighty glad they don’t, because we just can’t get enough of this car. We never thought we’d like a 911 so much. But this 991 is such a perfect blend of style, technicality, speed, and heritage that the more we see it, the more we yearn to have it. Porsche released a nostalgic promotional video for the new 991, reflecting on the car’s rich history as the brand’s identity. The 911 has retained its distinctive looks from the very first model born in 1963, and although it’s not the prettiest car in the world, it certainly is one of the coolest because of its character. The design has hardly changed and that’s good, but fortunately the technology has moved. The new 991 is possibly the most advanced sports car in the world right now.

You might remember Gordon Robertson from his Porsche Cayman Review we featured couple of weeks ago. He is the Chief Driving Consultant at Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone. This time he gets behind the wheel of a new 911 and, while making the car dance on the circuit, explains its features and also tells you about the 911 history. Granted, his heavy Scottish accent – or is it Irish? – is a bit hard to understand, but you don’t need any words to realize the 991 is one helluva car.

A few months ago Porsche got impatient and revealed the convertible version of the 991. But the car’s official debut is planned for the next week’s Detroit Motor Show.

They’ve also confirmed the Cayenne Diesel for America.

NAIAS is the first auto show of the year, so most car makers have at least one major debut at this event. Even so, the new Porsche 911 Cabriolet is interesting enough not to be obscured in the background.

This Detroit debut also shows the importance of the American market to Porsche. the premiere of the new 911 will be followed by the 430 hp Panamera GTS in spring. This will subsequently be followed by the Cayenne Diesel as Porsche’s first compression-ignition car in the USA. In 2013 the compact Cajun crossover will make its debut stateside.

Porsche had a successful year in America in 2011, delivering 29,023 Cayennes, Panameras, 911s, Boxsters and Caymans to US customers. That was 15 per cent more than in the previous year. The most successful model in 2011 was the Cayenne with 12,978 units (+55.6%). Shortly before the change of model, Porsche even managed to boost 911 sales by 4.9 per cent to 6,016 vehicles. In the New Year 2012, the Zuffenhausen company anticipates selling more than 30,000 vehicles in the United States.

“By building a new headquarters in Atlanta in the US State of Georgia we are underlining our growth ambitions in the region,” said Bernhard Maier. The complex, adjacent to the new terminal of Atlanta’s international airport, will comprise not just modern, energy-efficient offices for approximately 400 employees but also the technical service department as well as a training centre and circuit where customers can test the Porsche vehicles’ outstanding driving characteristics. The new US headquarters, which will for the first time centralise all administrative, training and sales functions and financial services, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2013. Porsche Cars North America has been based in Atlanta for the past 13 years. Porsche also plans to build an additional customer test facility in Carson in California, between the airports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Porsche is investing more than 100 million US dollars in the Atlanta head office and test facility in Carson.

We’ve talked so many times about the new Porsche 911 (991) that you must now know it better than your own car. But for those who still wonder what’s new in the 991, this Kelley Blue Book video review does a good job mentioning them one by one. In a nutshell, the 991 is a bit bigger and chunkier, better looking, and much better to drive than the 997. The flat-six in both Carrera and Carrera S are also tuned for more power and better fuel efficiency. In short then, it is one of the top five sports car you can buy today.

Guys over at Autoblog.nl has been playing with the new Porsche 911 (991) recently and came up with this video to showcase the car’s amazing performance the best way possible. This demo of the 991′s acceleration from 0 to 300 km/h shows how the Carrera S puts every single one of its 400 PS to the ground for an incredible performance. This is supercar performance available in a 100 grand sports car. Fantastic.

Porsche has been making the 911 for ten thousand years now, so they are virtually flawless in terms of quality and build. A point proven by a recent TÜV report naming the car the least defective used car you can buy.

According to the German Technical Inspection Agency’s report Porsche 911s have shown the fewest defects among all vehicles in its age group. They studied seven, nine and eleven years old vehicles and in each category it was the 911 showing the best results.

That is hardly surprising when you get to know how Porsche make their cars and how well they are engineered. This video of the new 991′s development is a good example.

And it’s not just the 911, all Porsches are built with utter brilliance. The same as the year before, in each of the general technical inspections, the TÜV inspectors found the least grounds for complaint. Overall, the 911, Boxster and Cayman models occupied five of the ten best rankings across all age groups, which is once again impressive proof of the Zuffenhausen sports cars’ long term quality and ability to hold their value.

The Autobild TÜV Report is based on data from approximately eight million general technical inspections between July 2010 and June 2011. So if you want a trouble-free used car, get a Porsche.

If you want to know what people are on about when they talk about superb German engineering and why it’s the best kind in the world, watch this video. It chronicles the new Porsche 991′s testings from 2010 as the engineers take it round the globe from South Africa to the Arctic Circle to make sure it performs well no matter the condition. The attention to details is just mind-boggling. No other car in this class offers this level of versatility and quality.

Singer for those of you who don’t know, is an American company that restores old Porsche 911s in a unique way. They add their own touches to the car.

After doing up a fabulous 60s 911, the have now came up with a Porsche 911 964 which is the same blend of classic styling and modern elements. The car is finished in a special Singer Racing Silver with a Ruby Red interior, which although look retro, are made of modern materials.

The body is made largely of carbon fiber courtesy of Aria Group, while Cosworth provides the powertrains for the car. There are three options: Touring – 3.6-liter engine, producing 300 hp,
Sport – 3.9-liter engine, producing 380 hp, and Cup – 3.9 to 4.0-liter engine, producing more than 425hp.

This is the fourth Singer 911 built for a customer. It was on display during the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Because these cars are built to order there is no price list and it all depends on the finished products. But don’t expect such an exquisite product to come cheap.

Porsche released the first picture of the convertible version of the 2012 911 (991) Carrera in both normal and S formats.

The new 911 cab has one big party piece and that is a very innovative folding roof. Although it looks like a classic canvas roof when closed, the hood is actually made from a highly advanced combination of magnesium for lightness and extra rigidity. This way Porsche engineered made sure none of the great handling characteristics of the car have been lost.

Like the coupe, the new cabrio features an aluminum body, new electro-mechanical power steering, longer wheelbase and wider tracks which on the whole result in a different driving experience than the 997 series.

The engine lineup is also the same as the coupe, including a 3.4-litre engine generating 350 hp (257 kW), and a a 3.8-litre engine developing 400 hp (294 kW) for the S models. It can be had with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch or the seven-speed manual gearbox. Those who have tried both say, albeit silently, that the PDK is actually more fun.

This fantastic drop-top 991 will hit the market in Spring 2012. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet is priced from £79,947 (100,532 Euros), the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet from £89,740 (114,931 Euros).

We are forever fascinated by old cars restored with modern elements. This way you get the swell styling of a classic, without any of the drawbacks. That’s what dp Motorsport has done with a 1973 Porsche 911.

They’ve basically rebuilt the whole car with new carbon fiber body panels including front bumper and hood, fenders, lightweight doors, rear fender flares, rear bumper and rear spoiler. The car has heated windscreen and lightweight green-toned Plexiglas windows, as well as lightweight lamp lenses.The whole thing weighs no more than 870 kg.

This featherweight car gets a 3.6 liter boxer engine with 228 kW/310 HP output. Granted, it has 50-mm PMO carburetor with open air filters and that is not very modern, but it’s got the power and I bet it sounds amazing!

The power is delivered via G-50 Gearbox and limited slip differential to the rear wheels. Speaking of the wheels, they are 9’ x 15’ and 13’ x 15’ by Fuchs rims wrapped with 225/50-15 and 345/35-15 tires.

The tuner has redone the interior as well, with a carbon fiber dashboard and covered it in black Alcantra. You get a safety roll cage and a classic Porsche steering wheel with horn button.

Other features of this superb car include a dp Clubsporttank with the capacity of 70 litres, a 25-amp gel battery starter, a smaller windshield cleaning liquid tank, light electric interior airing system, a middle oil cooler with front hood ventilation, and a brake cooling housing made of carbon.

We’ve brought to you a great number of videos featuring the new Porsche 911. But this one right here is the best of the lot. Produced by German magazine Sport Auto, this film has no commentary or cinematic tricks. Instead it shows you the car from some unusual, but undeniably cool, angles. It also includes some dignified flat-six roar coming from the Carrera S 400 bhp engine, and a 0-310 km/h test which is awesome.

The ultimate turnkey race car for private teams is ready in its 2012 version. Porsche has updated the 911 FT3 RSR fro the new season.

The car looks fab with an even wider track, and wider width by 1.9 inches. It also features new air ducts and revised bumpers and aerodynamics to supply more air for the car’s 4.0 liter boxer engine, that is restricted by law to 460 hp.

The power is delivered to the rear wheels by a six-speed sequential gearbox with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

The car is eligible for, among others, Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as well as the International GT Open. It is of course based on the old 997 series, but still costs a whopping 498.000 EUR or 689,000 USD.

Cant wait for the 991-bases RSR. Must be quite a looker.

This year at Los Angeles Auto Show the spotlight at Porsche stand will be on the new 911. But they also announced a “world premiere.”

They refuse to reveal any facts about this new model, and just say it boasts impressive performance and dynamic looks, exuding unadulterated driving pleasure. Whenever Porsche talks likes this, they are about to reveal a new limited edition of one of the car sin the range. The fact that they’ve given it second priority is further proof of that.

The first priority is of course American debut of the new Porsche 911. Just like in Europe, the 991 will hit the American market as 911 Carrera, powered by a 350 hp (257 kW), 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine and the 911 Carrera S with 400 hp (294 kW) flat engine and 3.8 litre displacement.

Other highlights of the show for the Germans include Panamera S Hybrid and Cayenne S Hybrid, and special feature of Boxster and Cayman sports cars.

We absolutely love everything Porsche 991. And this rendering of the car in Gulf  livery makes us dream!

Rendering these days with the new software and hardware technologies is probably easier, technically speaking, than the olden days. But what matters now is the concept and the taste of the designer.

The artist who did this Porsche is not only an expert in what he does, he has a very good taste in picking his subjects. The classic livery looks fantastic on the retro body of the new Porsche 911. If he is reading this, would you please render a 991 Sport Classic?!

As you know in the latest edition of Need For Speed video game, called The Run, the new 2012 Porsche 991 is heavily featured. So much so that Electronics Arts decided to give one — real one — away for free.

And you don’t even have to buy the game, which by the way is coming out November 15. All you have to do is register at Need For Speed Website to enter the sweepstakes to win a brand-new Porsche 911 Carrera S. Mind you, you have to have a valid driving license to be eligible.

But if you didn’t win, don’t despair. You can still get the game and enjoy the car in there. As you see in the demo video below NFS: The Run offers realistic graphics and physics and you can experience a piece of the action with it.

With the Porsche 991 coming and the 997 biting the dust, guys from RTL’s car show GRIP decided to pay tribute to this fine breed by looking back at its greatest hits over the years. The best versions of the 997 were indeed the Sport Classic, which brought back the swell styling of the old 911s with stuff like decklid spoiler and Fuchs wheels, and the GT3 RS 4.0, as the closest road-going 997 to its racing version.

Continuing our step by step tour of the 2012 Porsche 911, this time we take a deeper look at the interior. This is where the new 911 is drastically changed over the 997 and these changes are all for the better. The 991 gets a new center console like that of the Panamera, which is also used in the current-gen Cayenne. Granted, there’s too many buttons, but that is partly because the car is so feature-rich.
