The car gets a matte white foil job garnished with baby blue graphics for the front spoiler, rear diffuser, grille and side sills. It also gets 20-inch OZ Racing Ultraleggera HLT in gold, fitted with Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires, which work well with th paint job on the body.

The tuner has also used H&R threaded suspension to lower the car by as much as 35mm, and modified exhaust to a more throatier noise.

It is a nice car all around. But they’ve ruined it with that name.

As far as driver’s cars go then, this is one of the greatest of all time. Too bad then it’s limited to only 600 units.
Just as Sportec revealed its 858-hp Porsche 997, American tuner Switzer Performance revealed their new program for the car to keep the heat up! It’s not a new power package, the car is based on the 997 Turbo with Switzer’s P800 kit. But this time it’s a equipped with a modified version of Porsche’s Tiptronic gearbox, tuned for blistering performance.

You see the standard gearbox is capable of handling 700 hp max, but Switzer P800 generates over 800 horsepower. So they focused on the transmission, disassembled, upgraded, and rebuilt it and also fiddled with its transmission control unit (TCU) software. So it can now tolerate up to 900 hp.

Switzer says the P800 with the modded gearbox can do 0 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds, which is Veyron kinda time! And it can do it on standard tires, with standard air pressure and on pump gas. So it’s a great choice for those addicted to drag racing, either illegal street racing or formal competitions, who also want a high performance daily driver.

To have this superb performance you must first buy a Porsche 997 Turbo Tiptronic, get Switzer’s P800 package for it, and then give them another 7,999 USD for the tweaked transmission.

This is apparently the new Porsche 997 Turbo for 2010, and as far as I can work out it is exactly the same as the previous year’s model. It should be, you know,Porsche’s idea of facelift is not exactly the same as anyone else. the 911′s character can not be tweaked really, but because you pay extra money for the new model, it’d be be nice if they offered some difference!

As for the technicalities, the 2010 997 Turbo is going to get a 3.8 liter flat-six engine which engineers, by installing a pair of turbochargers, managed to extract 500hp. As we have seen from different tuning jobs done on the 997, its engine is always capable of much much more.

A good news with the new car is that Porsche is going to drop those stupid thumb shifters on the steering wheel for the sake of some proper paddle shifters on the steering column. Also you can have the 997 Turbo with PDK gearbox. As usual it’ll be available in both coupe and cabriolet forms.

More details to follow, stay tuned…

This is the Sportec SPR1 T80 which is a modified Porsche 997 from a tuner in Switzerland. If you judge it by the way it looks, you might think, at most, it has 500, 550 hp. Because unlike any other tuned Porsche, the SPR1 is not shouty at all, it looks very innocent! But this car is definitely a wolf in sheep’s clothing!!!

Sportec has managed to extract 858 bhp and 840 nm of torque by bolting a couple of turbocharges to the car’s 3.6 liter flat six, so this is actually one of the most powerful Porsche 911s ever made! The result of this much power is plain to see: 0-100 in 3 seconds and top speed of 380 km/h! Oh my!

The tuner had to modify many things to keep the car in check at this level of performance. The power goes to all four wheels and it has a fancy limited slip diff. SPR1 uses a six-speed manual gearbox. This is a fantastic achievement for the Swiss tuner, They are all really good at making extreme Porsches! Rinspeed anyone?!

The good thing is that the engine tuning is only a part of the package. Apart form exterior and interior changes, you get lots of new stuff in the option list. Full details in Sportec press release after the pictures…

SPR1 T80: 858bhp, power to all four wheels and 236mph plus top speed

Swiss automotive tuner SPORTEC, famed for its ultra high performance SPR1 range of 997 based supercars, is proud to announce the latest addition to its range, the T80. Conceived, designed and constructed in Switzerland by SPORTEC’s technical team, the new version of the SPR1 offers unrivalled supercar performance and exclusivity.

The T80 builds upon the performance of the SPR1 range by increasing the power of its bi-turbo, 3.6-litre, 24-valve, flat six T80M engine to a staggering 858 bhp, which, when combined with the benefits of permanent four wheel drive, creates a benchmark blend of poise and performance.

This means that each of the SPR1 T80′s four wheels channels 214.5 bhp to the tarmac, akin to having a VW Golf GTi powering each tyre, yet the SPR1′s bi-turbo engine remains fully Euro IV emissions compliant.

The SPORTEC SPR1 T80 enjoys supercar performance, taking a mere 3.0 seconds to hit 62mph (100kmh,) with 186mph (300kmh) appearing in just 18.9 seconds. A top speed of more than 236mph has been recorded at Nardo, Italy.

Technically, the SPORTEC SPR1 T80 boasts highlights including titanium connecting rods, a flat carbon fibre under floor, active suspension and F1 style ceramic brake discs.

The use of composite (carbon / Kevlar) body panels, forged alloy wheels, an integrated safety cage and ceramic brake discs allows the SPR1 to be lighter, safer and more dynamic than other cars in its class.

Available in a choice of colours, the SPR1 T80 boasts a number of exclusive SPORTEC styling and interior touches, including lightweight 20 inch forged alloy wheels, a carbon fibre rear wing and leather / alcantara interior.

Brackley based Automotive Performance Services (APS) is the UK concession for SPORTEC. The SPR1 T80 will be making its British debut at the prestigious Salon Privé show at London’s Hurlingham club between 22nd-24th July.

It is cool though, looks sporty and yet discreet. The whole kit is made of carbon fiber so it is light. Also Vorsteiner was determined to make the car more aerodynamic efficient, so they’ve spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel. So, although there is no mechanical change, but the combination of weight reduction and better aerodynamic have improved driving. Add to that new forged wheels which are available in 19 and 20 inch and you are good to go.

With this kit no body will call your 997 a Beetle again!

PRESS RELEASE

Switzer Announces SLEDGEHAMMER 1000 hp Porsche Conversion Package

Tym Switzer has been quietly running Switzer Performance Innovations (SPI) in Oberlin, Ohio for several years, building show-quality exhausts and bolt-on performance products for twin-turbo Porsche 996 and 997 models.

With his latest project, Tym and the crew at SPI wanted to test the limits of what would be possible with stock 997 internals. “When the customer first came to me with his 997, we talked a lot about pushing the limits the new engine and what might be possible using stock internals. I had already been inside the 997 turbo engines, and felt that 700 wheel horsepower seemed well within reach on pump fuel, and that we might be able to go a bit further.”

That “bit further” eventually led to what Switzer calls the SLEDGEHAMMER. Named after candid comment from an SPI tech, the SLEDGEHAMMER is a bolt-on performance package for 997 twin-turbo Porsches that delivers over 850 all-wheel horsepower on race fuel. That’s over 1000 hp at the crank!

Getting Bugatti-baiting performance figures from a bolt-on prepared 997 is no easy task, though. Switzer explains he and his crew “have always prided ourselves on attention to detail and delivering exactly what we promise to our customers. We have a saying around here: performance, not excuses. So during the original SLEDGEHAMMER build we looked at every part of the system, constantly metering and testing every component, on our in-house chassis dyno.”

A finished Switzer SLEDGEHAMMER is certainly an amazing car. Switzer reports that (despite backing off the throttle early) the first SLEDGEHAMMER (pictured) went almost 195 mph at the Texas mile. Additional performance figures read like the stuff of legend: consistent 0-60 times in the mid 2′s, less than 5 seconds to go from 60-130 mph, and 9.8-second quarter mile elapsed times with trap speeds regularly in excess of 145 mph. “With performance like that, these cars really speak for themselves – I have another one on the dyno now, and expect to post the results of those runs shortly.”

In addition to extensive ECU tuning, the SLEDGEHAMMER package includes SPI’s in-house developed headers and sport exhaust, as well as SPI’s MONSTER intercooler package (shown) and SPI-massaged GT30R turbos. More details on Switzer’s SLEDGEHAMMER conversion can be found on SPI’s website. The SLEDGEHAMMER package retails for 49990USD, and is available through SPI. Contact SPI for more information.
