RM Auctions is offering yet another great item for sale, a 1991 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta once owned by former Chrysler CEO and father of the original Mustang, Lee Iacocca.

The F40 is one of the most sought-after classic supercars. This one is even better because it also has celebrity endorsement, well, sort of. RM expects it to fetch $650K to $750K in the January 20 auction.

This Ferrari F40 is number 94, out of the total 213 allocated to the United States. It had two other owners other than Mr. Iacocca, but amazingly it only has 300 miles on the clock. So it’s basically brand-new.

Even by today’s standards the F40 is one of the fastest and most serious super cars. Back in its early days though, it was the king of the hill. Designed to fight the Porsche 959 for the world’s ultimate super car title, the F40 had a full carbon fiber body and a mid-mounted, 3.0 liter V8 engine boosted with two huge turbochargers, developing 471bhp.

Even though the car has massive turbo lag, it still hits 60mph from standing still in under 4 second and can reach a top speed of 201mph. That’s mainly because it’s light, very light. The F40 is often likened to a go kart with a twin-turbo V8.

The car comes with full documentation, including Ferrari Certificate of Origin dated October 12, 1990, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency letter, Italian export papers, an engraved ‘Built Especially for Lee Iacocca’ card, the owner’s warranty and service book, the warranty card and a letter that is ‘John Hancocked’ by Enzo Ferrari himself.

One of only six Jaguar XJ220s super cars ever built will be up for grabs at an RM Auction event in Arizona next month.

As one of the best ’80s supercar, the normal XJ220 is a very rare and collectible item in its own right. This XJ220s then is a super special car, not just because of its rarity, but the ingredients as well.

Built by Tim Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), the car is largely made of carbon fiber panels which have replaced the original aluminum parts. It has a race car look thanks to its front air splitter, wider sills, extra air intakes, and a massive rear wing.

The car was then repainted in Lamborghini Reventon gray, and fitted with new leather interior and new wheels.

This amazing super car features a twin-turbo V8 developing 680 hp. It has many bespoke parts, including a TWR titanium exhaust system which alone costs a whopping $20,000.

It’s got the power, but it’s not likely to ever get a chance to unleash it. Whoever buys this jewel is going to treat it better than his children. It will probably find a nice, warm and dry spot in an air conditioned garage as part of a collector’s collection.

RM expects it to fetch something between $225,000-$300,000 in the auction.

The Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most beautiful and desirable classic cars usually selling for millions every time it pops up at auctions. This one though, offered by RM Auctions, is a bit more special as it was the star of James Bond movies, Goldfinger and Thunderball, driven by Sean Connery. So it’s not a surprise that it fetched an incredible £2.9 million (over $4.6 million) at RM’s recent London event.

This being a Bond car, it comes with some very special features that are kinda ridiculous and childish, but cool! Some of the onboard kit with this car include machine guns, rotating license plates, eject system for passenger seat and…

The new owner of the car is an American collector Harry Yeaggy. RM Auction announced that the proceeds of this sale will go to the Jerry Lee Foundation which helps prevent crime.

RM Auction is coming up with yet another great offer which will go under the hammer at RM’s 25th anniversary Sports & Classics of Monterey event in August. It’s a 1958 Ferrari 250 ‘Pontoon Fender’ Testa Rossa, serial number 0738 TR, which is one of the 21 units ever produced. And yes, it has what it maters the most, racing pedigree! This TR is going to be the most valuable motor car ever offered at Monterey’s auction.

Considered one of the most highly-sought-after and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars, the beautiful and unmistakable Scaglietti-designed ‘Pontoon Fender’ 250 Testa Rossa was produced from 1957 to 1958 during which only 21 were constructed, including 0738 TR. Delivered new to Brazilian Jean-Louis Lacerda Soares, 0738 TR was raced for several seasons in South America under the Esquardari Largatixa banner where it recorded a number of successful finishes. For the past 14 years its current owner, a gentleman racer, has extensively campaigned 0738 TR in its yellow and green Brazilian racing colors, recording numerous wins and podium finishes at the world’s most prestigious historic racing events.

“RM’s recent record-breaking Monaco sale coupled with the steadily improving economic climate demonstrates the ideal time for the debut of this rare and coveted Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa at auction in Monterey this August,” says Rob Myers, Chairman and CEO, RM Auctions. “In May 2009, during a period many considered the depths of the global recession, RM set the current world record price for a car sold at auction with another pontoon-fender TR selling for $12.4 million. That result was a true testament to the demand for these iconic Ferraris and is indicative of the strong potential for this example to set yet another auction record.”

RM Auction is putting yet another great car up for auction, this time a 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which is an actual James Bond car! This car with the registration plate FMP 7B has been a property of Mr.Jerry Lee for over 40 years. He had bought the car from the company for $12,000, and now it’s expected to fetch over $5 million!

This DB5 is a full-blooded Bond car, the whole nine yard! It has Front and rear hydraulic over-rider rams on bumpers; Front firing .30 caliber Browning machine guns powered by trunk mounted oxy/propane system; Wheel mounted tire slasher; Retractable rear bullet-proof screen; Radio telephone concealed in secret compartment; Radar scanner in racing type wing mirror with tracking screen in the cockpit; Passenger ejector seat – with removable roof panel (seat since replaced with standard seat); Oil slick ejector from left side rear light cluster; Triple spiked nails (caltrops) from the right side rear light cluster; Smoke screen released through separate rear system – located next to rear exhaust; Revolving number plates (3) featuring licenses YRE 186H, 007JB and JB007; and Armaments drawer under front driver seat.

Not that all of these things actually work on this car, but there they are! And the coolest thing is they’re all hidden away normally.

“The James Bond car has brought me much enjoyment for some 40 years,” said Jerry Lee. “Even as I sell it and use the proceeds to fund the Jerry Lee Foundation, the car will continue to give me great pleasure as it furthers the mission of the Foundation to do good around the world.”

Recently we told you about the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC which was sold by Gooding and Company, reportedly for $30-$40 mil, to become the world’s most valuable car. Now though RM Auctions announced that they secured a private treaty sale for the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO chassis number 4675 GT. They have not announced the price, but experts suggest that it should be well over $30 million. Do we have a new world’s most expensive car?!

Apart form the business though, this Ferrari is more deserving than the Bugatti to be the most valuable car in the history. OK, it’s not just as rare, 36 units of this model were produced, but it’s unbelievably pretty and has tons of racing pedigree. And with 320 hp it can do 174 mph! Of course it is not advised to try it in a 50 year old car that costs $30+ mil, but it can!

“The exclusivity of Ferrari’s 250 GTO cannot be understated. As they rarely come to market, new owners become part of a very exclusive ‘club’ and are welcomed with open arms at literally any of the world’s great concours events, races and rallies. We are pleased to have been able to unite this exceptional car with a new and immensely enthusiastic owner. It’s fantastic that this car will now be used in earnest on the classic car scene around Europe,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.

A while ago we had the news this ultra-rare 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa rosa is going to be auctioned off and is predicted to brake the world record for the most expensive car. Well, it just did that! Yesterday at Leggenda e Passione annual event run by RM Auctions it achieved a final price of about $12.2 million, a mind blowing price specially in the time of recession!

Press Release

MARANELLO, Italy, May 17 — RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s made history at the Ferrari factory in Maranello today as a 1957 Ferrari 250 TR, chassis no. 0714TR sold for euro 9,020,000 at the third-annual Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event to set a new world record for the most expensive motor car ever to be sold at auction.

Returning to its Maranello birthplace for its auction debut, the euro 9,020,000 sale price represents euro 1,980,000 more than the previous auction world record which was set at the same sale last year.

“The historical significance of this car attracted a bidding war as collectors from around the world – both in the room and on the telephone – competed to secure one of the most alluring and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.

“The eyes of the world were watching today’s sale as cars of this quality are so rarely offered to the market. The rarity and the provenance of the Testa Rossa speaks for itself and the price we achieved today is testament to that. We are delighted with the result the car achieved today,” he added.

The beautiful and immediately recognizable Scaglietti-designed ‘pontoon-fender’ 250 TR was produced from 1957 to 1958 during which only 22 examples were constructed. The Ferrari 250 TRs entered 19 international championship races from 1958 through 1961 emerging with 10 victories and earning them legendary status among discerning collectors, as well as the honor of being one of the most desirable and competitive racing Ferraris ever built.

0714TR was extensively campaigned in its day with significant finishes at the world’s most important racing events including the 1000 km Buenos Aires in January 1958.

The Ferrari Leggenda e Passione is the only auction of its kind dedicated to the Ferrari marque, held at the Maranello factory grounds and endorsed by the Ferrari factory.

Further information on the sale, full results and hi-res photography will be posted online at www.rmauctions.com

A 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Roadster, number 2 of 5 ever built will be auctioned in Arizona on January 16. This 616 HP racing Vette is the symbol of all American racing heritage and is re-tuned to its original racing state for the auction, said the officials. Of course the price will be so high for such jewel that the buyer would never dare to race it again !!

Chevrolet built only five Grand Sports, which have been surrounded by an aura of intrigue. “Periodically, one of the five Grand Sports appeared, raced around at shocking speeds, and then plunged back into mysterious seclusion,” in the words of journalist Brock Yates. Chassis No. 002 will be part of the lineup at the Automobiles of Arizona auction at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa here.

Bidding requirements include a $2,000 cash deposit and a bank letter of guarantee, according to RM Auctions.

The Grand Sport up for auction “has been returned to its 1966 USRRC racing configuration,” says RM Auctions, “wearing its pristine time-warp original bodywork with 427 power and accordingly remains just as it might have been seen over 40 years ago on the track or in the pits. It is the very definition of a ‘time warp example,’ especially considering that most race cars cannot make it through a season without new bodywork.”

Goodies include a “comprehensive documentation package nearly 6 inches thick appropriate to its history, restoration and importance,” said RM Auctions.
